Hi.. Im getting the HiFi system setup here at home on Sunday. Got the connection plan ready today .
Let me know, if anything is missing or wrong.

Here is the diagram . I did a lot of calculations and got confused in the middle , but lets see, how far I got it right. :)

Here are the cases, which Im going to use . So, check the diagram and tell me, if Im missing something.

1ST CASE :

I watch HD channels on Airtel HD STB. They support 5.1 channel audio .
So, I have connected a CoAxial Digital Audio Belkin Cable to the SPDIF (coaxial) port of the STB to the AVR Digital Coaxial port.

And HDMI from Airtel is connected to the TV directly.

So, this is okay or not ?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2ND CASE :

Lets say , I have some songs on a pen drive and I want to connect that pen drive to the AVR directly.
And need the play list to show on the TV .

I have a HDMI connected from TV to AVR (Not sure, which HDMI port to connect this HDMI out from TV into the AVR) Refer this diagram and tell me which HDMI port, should the TV out be coming into the AVR HDMI port, http://usa.denon.com/Assets/Images/Products/NewIncommandSeries/c26-AVR2113CI-2-l.jpg :S
So, does this setup work ?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

3RD CASE :

Lets say, I play some BluRay DVDs or connect my hard drive to my Samsung BD player .

So, I just connected a HDMI from Samsung to AVR.
Does, this carry video and audio both ?
Or do I need to connect another Digital CoAxial Audio cable from Samsung BD player to the AVR ?

The AVR has just one CoAxial Audio in port, which is busy due to the Airtel STB audio out :(

If Airtel STB sends out 5.1 through coaxial and not through HDMI, then this setup is correct.

If you want to connect the USB drive to AVR directly and not to the TV, then this setup is correct. In this case it doesn't matter which HDMI IN port in TV you connect to. The HDMI OUT port in Denon AVR should connect to any HDMI IN port in TV....that's all.
Note: It doesn't harm to connect to an ARC HDMI IN in the TV, in case you want to connect the USB drive directly to TV and want to get audio via AVR.

Yes it carries both audio & video. This setup is correct.

Dear friend,

I purchased a Samsung Blu Ray player ( model:BD-H6500) which as up scaling feature and only ONE HDMI out put port and a USB port for playing files from USB devices.

a Videocon HD D2Hwhcih has one HDMI out port.

Is it possible to up scale the D2H content to 4k by using the feature of my Blu Ray Player?

If it is possible to view the up scaled D2H content through my Blu Ray player, can any one explain how to connect VIDEOCON D2H to Samsung Blu Ray Player, as there is no HDMI input port on Blu Ray Player? Can it be connected through USB port of the Blu Ray Player?

If yes, suggest me a good branded HDMI TO USB adapter.

Regards

These devices do not work that way so in your case you cannot use the upscaling feature of your BD Player for D2H. Is your TV 4K because without that you cannot see benefits of 4K upscaling although in the first place I am not certain whether the D2H content at 1080i upscaled to 4K will do any benefit at all in terms of improving PQ?

I have the same set up as the OP. The AVR (Yamaha YHT196) was delivered yesterday and I did the initial connections as below.

Setup: Panasaonic LED TV (3 HDMI including 1 with ARC) + Philips bluray player + Airtel HD STB with Yamaha YHT 196.

The connection done now is as below and I have not done any configuration on AVR

STB to AVR - HDMI
Bluray to AVR - HDMI
AVR to TV - HDMI (ARC).

The setup works fine. I could get 5.1 channel output on HD channel from STB. Connected my 1 tb HDD to bluray player and also played a DVD. No issues with audio and video. Tuned the FM channels also.

But now the issue is that, I want the TV to work independently when AVR is switched off. We don't need HT setup for normal TV shows (read serials) and HT audio should be there once AVR is switched on.

1. Is there any set up required in AVR/TV to do this with the present connections.

2. I am thinking of connecting the STB to TV directly thro HDMI port of TV and connect the STB to AVR thro' optical cable for audio. Will this solve the issue. I will keep the ARC HDMI connection to AVR as it is since it will be required for bluray and other connections.

3. The above will free up 1 HDMI port on AVR for other connections.

Experts please advise

My set up is exactly as the OP. My Yamha YHT 196 was delivered yesterday and I have done the connections as below.

Setup: Panasonic LED TV (3 HDMI with 1 ARC), Philips BR player (1 HDMI), Air tel HD recorder STB (1 HDMI), AVR - Yamaha YHT196

Connections. No set up configuration done yet on AVR

1. STB - AVR - HDMI
2. BR Player - AVR - HDMI
3. TV - AVR - HDMI(ARC).

The setup works fine and I have tested the following.

1. HD channels with 5.1 audio from STB
2. Video/audio from 1 tb HDD connected to BR player
3. Video/audio from DVD (BR player)
4. FM from AVR.

My issue now is that we don't want HT setup while watching normal TV shows . Now if the AVR is switched off, the TV also goes blank. I want a set up where in I can switch on the AVR only when required.

1. Can this be done by any setup change in TV/AVR .
2. If I connect the STB to TV directly thro HDMI and the STB to AVR thro optical cable for audio, will I get the results. I intend to try this out this evening. Even in this scenario, I have to keep the TV-AVR - HDMI(ARC) connection for BR player and other inputs.

3. I have 2 very good Akai speakers (part of the stereo I had - 6 ohms) . Can I connect them as the front L & R speakers

Experts please advise

Sorry for the double post. I connected as per the last post. Now I can use the TV with or without the HT system, In addition I have one more hdmi port available on the avr

Hi Raju...just to check the quick peice...did you use the normal Optical cable (those red/white/yellow one) or some different cable. I'm also thinking of similar set up which you have done but doubt if standard cables will be able to give that great sound quality.

@raju, your optical cable is redundant and not required. If you know that your airtel stb is giving 5.1 when connected to AVR via HDMI then in that case you should be fine connecting the STB to TV directly via HDMI which would bypass the AVR. If you intend to us the AVR then turn it on and utilize ARC over the existing connection from TV (in) to AVR (out) to get the audio via AVR. Let me know if this is working.

Regarding your Akai speakers, yes you may connect since YHT 196 support 6 ohms speakers but you need to see if that speaker has a higher sensitivity than your rest of the YHT 196 stock speakers (83 dB) then you might get different volume level from your fronts than the rest of the setup, you might need to adjust the relative channel volumes individually if you have that feature on YHT 196.

The simplest thing you can do is setup the audio-pass through on the AVR to pass-thru both audio/video directly to the TV on standby. But I doubt whether your AVR has this feature.
