Hey guys! First post here! Looking to purchase a 40" LED tv.

Confused between the two models mentioned. Also wanted to know if there are any other alternatives from Samsung in the same price range. Are these models at the end of their life cycle/ are there newer models?

I'm currently using a 32" series 5 lcd which has been decent enough, but isn't very reliable. Had to get it repaired twice.

Also, should I go for a 32 or 40" tv? Viewing distance is 6-7 feet.

Thanks in advance :ohyeah:

Get the 40ex650, the nx650 is not worth the price as its expensive only for design.

At your viewing distance, 40-42" is good, while 32" will be small. I suggest that you visit multi-brand showrooms and have a look at Toshiba, Samsung, LG, Philips, Panasonic, etc. You may be surprised. Sony makes good TVs but don't go by reputation alone. The EX650 is a good TV but it is not the best. You may be able to get a better deal with other brands and still match/exceed Sony quality.

bolton..40EX650 is the best led tv in terms of picture quality at that price point...

Would like to see some suggestion of some other led tv at same price which offers better pic quality than 40EX650.

Thanks for the help guys. Will definitely go to the showroom before deciding. Also, if anyone has any idea: Where can I get the EX650, for the cheapest price possible in Mumbai? I've been quoted the same 67k everywhere.

And... opinion on Samsung 6220 (3D)?

Yeah thats what the dealers are saying. Ezone online is offering additional 5% off, though.

Is there any extended warranty offered by sony?

Sony does offer extended warranty at a nominal cost. Best to take extended warranty (if available) with any TV purchase.

Sony gives additional two year warranty for Rs.3K for 40" TVs. This can be bought later within one year of purchase of the TV.

Although the Samsung 6 Series ES6200 or something is slightly more expensive, it is better than EX650 in every manner, in my personal opinion. Others' opinion may differ. But you can demo both and check for yourself.

Ok so I have no other option right now other than the ex650 and nx 650. Also considered the lg 6410, but I'm biased towards the so called sony superiority.

I really liked the picture quality of the nx at the showroom. Also ex looks slightly outdated in my opinion. The difference between the two is hardly a few thousand rupees, but whats putting me off from getting the nx is the so called reflection on the glass panel. I havent personally experienced it, so I'd like to know more about it.

Also, I'd be primarily using it for gaming, so motion blur is a big no. I hope either the nx or ex don't have this problem.

Any help will be appreciated. Really confused. Have to purchase it at the end of this month, so have to decide asap!

Any TV with glass top surface is bound to suffer from reflections. If you buy such a TV, make sure that you instal it in a place where ambient light is controllable and there is no direct light, window opposite to the TV panel - be it LED or plasma.

The tv wont be under direct sunlight. But what about, say, a tube light, which will be adjacent/above to the tv?

It depends upon the angle of reflection. If the tubelight is such that it reflects directly to your eyes, you can see the reflection on the TV screen, and that will be very disturbing. I have the same issue with my setup at home. Hence, I do not use the tubelight while watching TV and switch on table lamp next to the bed, reflecting its light on the wall. This gives me low light conditions that is ideal for plasma. In daytime, I draw the drapes across the windows to dim the light. It also helps to reduce contrast and brightness to lower levels and that has helped me in calibrating the TV to get maximum black levels that is so necessary to get shadow details exposing themselves in the hollywood movies. It has also helped me to curb the image retention problem associated with plasma. After 9 months of use, at 7 hours per day on an average, I am yet to see any sustained and/or visible image retention.

Tubelight on the side wall may not be an issue. Tubelight directly above the TV (on the same wall/side) will make watching slightly uncomfortable (perhaps). Plasma is less bright and can be comfortably watched in dim light. LED TVs are bright and must be watched in more ambient light.

Basically, you will have to experiment with light settings so as to deliver best performance with correct lighting.

Thanks for your detailed answer. Really appreciate it.

The tube light will be on the wall adjacent to the tv, and not above it, so yeah it won't be directly towards towards my eyes. I don't want to keep adjusting the lighting in the room, just to make the tv more watchable imho, however slight the adjustment may be.

Ex650 seems like a safer bet to me, but man, the thought of new tv's launching in a couple of months is making me insane :p
