flickering while watching 3D

^

As already pointed out by members here, this year "flicker" and "crosstalk" are no more "issues" with Active sets. There is very little difference in crosstalk and flicker between 2012 Active sets and LG Passive sets. In fact this year a few Active sets have better 3D Picture quality overall than Lg Passive 3D sets.

As per my knowledge, Active 3d sets are prone to flickering while the passive ones are free from all this.

It is due to the difference in technology used in the active and passive 3D TVs.Active 3D TVs use the SG technology while the passive ones use the FPR technology.

I would like to add that in case of Active 3D, the technology is mostly on the eye wear and in case of passive 3D it is on the TV. In other words, if you are not an avid fan of 3D, by buying passive 3D you are wasting money. With the extra money, you will get a much better TV, ( with active 3D) which will be greatly enhance your TV viewing. Tou can opt for a larger panel or a better pic quality.

Let me explain. The LG passive 3D 42 inch cost about 75K. with the same amount you can either buy a samsung 3D plasma of 51 inch full HD plasma or 42 inch panasonic ST/GT plasma or Sony 40 inch LED.

Yeah, I agree to the point but don't you think SG is a bit of bad tech for tech lovers.
It's my view point only which can differ from person to person.

3D Technology has improved to the level where we now get flicker free and mostly crosstalk free active 3DTV. Get the Samsung 51E550 or Panasonic ST50,GT50 etc and you can enjoy a really awesome 3D experience !!!

@God2007 You have a point there; I also think that 3D is only for hardcore fans of the technology. But these TV models you mentioned they have all other features of Smart TV like net browsing and good picture quality; that would justify the money spend on them?

I think you are making a wrong comparison. The LG 3D TV that you are talking about is a LED TV, and you are comparing its price to a plasma TV. LED 3D TVs from Samsung, or Sony or any other brand are almost priced equivalent.

Also, to set the record straight, let us consider a few LG Plasma TV models -

LG PA6500 - 50 inch - Full HD - MRP 75K
LG 42PM4700 - 42 inch - 3D Smart TV - MRP 54K (Active 3d - AFAIK)

Again, plasma TV in similar screen sizes will cost the same across all brands. Why would any brand allow such a price differential?

Look, people have the right to have an opinion on things. Yes, I do agree that there was nothing that could be done to stop flickering in the earlier models. This was largely due to the SG technology used in them. However, the technological advancements by LG through their launch of FPR Cinema 3D range have made it possible for us to watch flicker free 3D with comfortable polarized glasses.

I am not a much tech freek guy and would like to enhance my knowledge on this.
As per few of the tech review sites, the LG 3D models are said to be certified flicker free and you yourself are saying that there is a little difference between the two(active and Passive)
So from where the difference came?

I think Flickering cannot be solved until the 3D glasses are not developed to the next level. However I feel problem in my Active 3D Glasses, Don't know what other people feel??

Irrespective of the underlaying technology, what you are buying is a TV. Plasma , CCFL LCD, LED LCD all have their own merits and demerits. So it cannot be said that they are not comparable. The only two criteria of buying Tvs shall be your budget and the pic quality of the TV. 90% of it shall go for pic quality. The looks, sound, smart features etc shall constitute only the remaining 10 %. if you have a TV with great pic quality, you can add the missing elements say HT, Media player, laptop etc. But what if your TV have all the bells and whistles, and look like a beauty queen in your drawing room, but the pic quality is horrible ?.

To the pricing, may be it is the value of the product and /or the service as perceived by the manufacturer. To tell you frankely, I did not found much difference among those TVs when I demoed a large number of Tvs, before my buy. ( from a layman's perspective)

Well, I agree on your point that the major concern will be the PQ of the TV but still you ca find a good crowd of people who looks for so many other perspective like Design,Sound, Power consumption as well.
As far as the pricing in concerned, we can easily see difference in the existing TV range. They depend on the brand value and also the qualities they are providing with them.
