Forget flipkart and all other mentioned sites. The best way to buy vinyl off ebay uk or amazon us. I bought more than a dozen from ebay uk in nov 2011...led zep...police.....rickey lee jones...dizzy gillespie...duke ellington....max roach clifford brown....miles davis....sarah vaughan....etc all brand new sealed priced between 800 & 1200 rupees each. Huge selection!!!

Whats up with Flipkart of late? I had about 50-60 records on my wishlist (they were all in stock) and I just checked it in the last week and ALL of them are showing as Out of Stock. I find it hard to believe they all sold out, so I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with FK's supplier? Any ideas?

I bought a few LPs from Flipkart last year..and early this year..for quite cheap actually..wonder how flipkart sells these LPs at such a price..because the price of some of these LPs on Ebay/Discogs/record labels sites are quite high..

Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Diablo Swing Orchestra - The Butcher's Ballroom
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal
OM - Advaitic Songs
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

However i haven't received a single LP from Flipkart since January! Doesn't mean i havent placed orders..They've cancelled 8 of my LP orders between Jan and today! And everytime they give the same reason : 'We tried our best procuring the said item(s), but our suppliers have confirmed it's unavailability'.

and all these orders that i place..at the time of placing the order it says 'buy now'. That means according to them the LP is available. But still they keep giving that lame reason..I'm fed up!

The best place to buy new records would be to buy it directly from the record label's shop (of course..some labels charge ridiculous shipping charges! but most of them have decent rates). For e.g. century media, nuclear blast, prophecy records, war on music, etc..These are the ones that i use anyway.. Of course for obscure, out of print records nothing beats Ebay/Discogs!

Sandesh,

Pls start a new thread with list of artist's you have & on which format,

Tks!

Not sure about flipkart but I've tried amazon.com for LPs and it worked brilliantly. However, my delivery address has always been in the United States. Shipping to India is expensive.

I just noticed today that infibeam.com also has vinyls available. They are not very easy to search. In many cases, you have to first search the audio CD and there you get the option for the vinyl edition. It seems to be giving some good discounts also.
Some vinyls like Rudaali and Maachis, I see being given away for as low as 556/- which is pretty good for a new vinyl in my opinion.
I have had a good experience buying books there. Does anyone have experience on them?

I have bought some from our FM's site Vinyl World • Welcome to the World of Vinyl & Gramaphone Records which is giving good used vinyl. Does anyone have any other new site suggestions?

Perhaps we should put together a list of all such sites selling vinyls online.

I've given up on Flipkart. Firstly, their naming system is completely messed up and any order you place you have to hope you get the right one. Secondly, their pricing is ridiculously expensive. In the early days it was cheaper and a good option, but now prices are more than double other sites even with international shipping costs included. And third, they are simply unable to procure products anymore. Almost every order i've placed in the last few months has been cancelled, and because of that i missed opportunities of buying the same record on other sites.

They were good for a while, but now it's too messed up. I much prefer to buy direct from the label, use discogs/ebay, or another great option is Amazon UK. Shipping is free to India for most orders and orders reach me in 2 weeks. If there is any issue or damage during shipping they send a new copy or refund the money.

Further 10% discount available for ICICI and HDFC cards using respective coupon codes. Ordered Maachis for just 501Rs.:)

Thanks for sharing your experience. Amazon uk sounds interesting if shipping is free. Good option for international LPs. Any customs issues? I think duty is 24% on LPs.
ebay shipping must cost a bomb. On ebay us either they do not ship to india or the shipping is prohibitive. I have asked one office colleague in US to get some LPs I bought on ebay. Should come in month end. Lets see the condition.
I never tried discogs. How does the payment and shipping work? I have seen some attractive pak LPs there.

Same here! Even I've given up on Flipkart. The prices of LPs have just soared! The 29% discount that they used to offer is no longer there. Plus even if you order something from them now, they take almost a month on an average (as opposed to 12-15 days on an average earlier). I don't know what's wrong..the LP specialist has quit the job :p or maybe they're not able to afford 29% discount because of the high dollar price.

Now I've started buying new LPs from amazon.uk. But there are problems there too! The way the pack the LPs..pathetic! They call it : frustration free packaging! Frustration free my foot! The last 2 records i received from them arrived in a horrific state (corners all bent). But atleast they refund/replace it without any question. I don't know who came up with the idea to pack records in such flimsy cardboard boxes!

So the best way still seems to be to buy directly from the record labels. They know how to pack, they communicate with customers well, and they offer very reasonable prices.

I've never had to pay any customs for LPs that I've bought from amazon (UK). Discogs works pretty much like Ebay (just that you can't bid on discogs). You pay via Paypal or Credit card. Shipping price depends..if you buy from a seller in USA..shipping will be almost 20$ per record! If you buy from a German seller..5-7 Euro per record (the more you buy, the more you save). French sellers also offer reasonable shipping rates.

Thanks Saket for the tips. I will give them a try some day :)
Any experience with pakistani sellers?

Saw discogs in detail. Its quite expensive!
