Ford fiesta - iced - request suggestions to upgrade

Nice Thread...
What magma said is correct. i suggest you go in for a powerful 4 channel amp.
Use two channels for your front components and and bridge two channels to drive a sub. Let the rears run off the HU.

audiodelic
neel doesnt need to run his sub/subs on a four channel amp, hes already got an excellent mono for sub duty!

@magma i have the same digital amp you have mentioned driving the sub. As neo suggested can i go for rainbow SLC265.25 (22K) for the front comps. I have 2 options in mind as suggested by you and neo 1. Ground Zero 12XSPL x 2 Subs or 2. RAINBOW HAMMER 12 x 1 Sub . Pls advice me on this regard. There is one more sub RAINBOW AMBOSS 12 which is a 1000watts sub, will it be suitable for my Monoblock amp. If the comps and Subs are Ok please guide me in the process of aquiring them.

@neo thanks for the very good suggestions regarding the subs.

@magma i have my opinion for your kind perusal.Pls give me your suggestions. Please let me know where can i get KENWOOD ip300V. I hope it will be available in bombay. It is not at all available in south india i verified.

Thanks :clapping:

Hey! Neels I'd like to why 2 subs?

i would like to know the same too!!:)

anyway
neels
this is completely my opinion
i would prefer an ID or Ground Zero sub over the rainbow

if its two subs you want for about 20k i would think of only 2 options

2 nos of this :: Ground Zero :: Subwoofer / GZRW 12XD-AL
(this is a dual 2 ohm sub so each sub wired in series is 4ohm and 2 subs wired in parallel will give the amp 2 ohm - this is a perfect match for your amp
2*500rms subs with a 1000 rms amp!)

the next option (2subs option)would be
2nos of ID 12 V2 d2 sub

if its one sub you want

then its best you look for a 500rms (4ohm) sub
something like the IDQ 12 V3 or the IDQ 12 V2

or the mighty
:: Ground Zero :: Subwoofer / GZRW 30SPL

i wouldnt recomend JVC,MTX,earthqauke etc at all

i know th ground zero and the ID dealers
decide what you want and then inform me

P.S : i 've a getz with 2 nos 12XD AL's with radiaoactive series 6.5 components. so i know how it sounds:D
please note : he old 12XD AL subs were dual 4 ohm but the new ones i jut found out today are dual 2 ohms ( perfect for your need!)

i had a chance to listen to focals (polyglass)
they are good
theres only 2 problem
1st there a lot of fakes in the market
and 2nd the original ones are really overpriced at almost 18-20k ( in the US they are only 230$)-thats why they are not exactly VFM

for compos YOu should select from the following
:: Ground Zero :: speaker systems / GZRC 16X
(these are the highest rated 120rms! and will go well when you bridge those two channels to get 150rms - you can actually turn up the gains to even 80%!)
as i said ive head these and ive liked them

next you can consider

rainbow SLC265.25 (18-22K)/-only problem here is i dont think these are availble easily
Rainbow SLX 265 Deluxe: About 13.5K-100rms 91db
rainbow csx 265 (22-24k)- i believe these would be really good but real expensive too

ID CXS65 (Chameleons): About 26K-this is also a great speaker
(their entry level series is a no no)

focal polyglass - 70rms 93db - i dont know the cost-please do state
(the only problem i see here is as stated above)

that means you have 4 brand choices in components
what i advice is that you should first call up the distributers of these speakers and first find out the cost of each component. if its out of your budget you can rule them out.

let me call up the rainbow and ID distributer and confirm the prices.we can then see what is in and out of your budget

I came across a old friend who is dealing with car audio in coimbatore today, i enquired about FOCAL POLYGLASS and Rainbow Components. He has FOCAL POLYGLASS but he have discontinued doing Rainbow speakers. He also said that FOCAL POLYGLASS are very good speakers and comes around 20K. He is having DLS components and suggested DLS IRIDIUM 6.2i 6" COMPONENT SYSTEM - 18K (DLS IRIDIUM 6.2 6" COMPONENT SYSTEM) for the Front and DLS THE IRIDIUM IR 12 12" SUBWOOFER- 20K (DLS THE IRIDIUM IR 12 12" SUBWOOFER)
. He strongly recommends the components .
I have told him that i will decide and let him know.

@magma and neo, you are right about going in for single subwoofer and i have decided to go in for a single Sound quality sub. The budget would be around 20K for single sub. Please advice me on deciding DLS Comps and sub.

neels

ive said before
music is subjective.
i would always suggest that you hear a speaker before buying. we can suggest you many brands as per our own personal tastes but if you cant hear them there is no point in just going by what we say

hearing them makes the difference

if you can hear one or two speakers in your town thats all thats needed
if you like them, buy- simple,
its better you buy something that youve heard and liked rather than going by what other may say in various forums and then buying such an expensive set and not being happy!

for the sub i still stand by the two choices ive given you
the IDQ12v3 d2 ( its a dual 2 ohm sub-wire it in series and present 4 ohms to your amp.700rms is good for it. it wil rock)
however you might have to up your budget by a couple thousand for this baby

the next one is the GZ i have specified

P.S : DLS is not known for its subwoofers, also if you can hear the focals please do so too.
if you are skeptical about the component choices i have given you an you are keen on either focal or DLS only then

i would go for the focals polyglass over the DLS for the same price ( if they are the same that is)

I am not very keen in FOCAL or DLS . I have narrowed down the choices because i have the privilege of hearing both of them and return the one i am not happy with.I have heard the name DLS only today. As you have suggested i am going to hear both the compos and then decide. Regarding the Subwoofer i will go in for the ID you have specified. I have no problem in extending my budget for the sub. Please guide me where can i source the subwoofers.
We can first finish of the components first and then we can go in for the sub.

Hey! Neels i'm happy that you'll be going for one sub only. I guess it will mostly suffice your needs.

The ID sub goes a bit lower while the rainbow is better with the lower mid bass. The rainbow sub is also available with original enclosure.

For companents the ranibow will play the warm with good vocals. The ID will be a bit more dynamic & GZ will lean a bit towards SPL.

DLS is a good brand & if you like it you may go for it. It is unknown in india as it is rarely available & only in grey, So pl check for aunthenticity & model year.

I would like to more about the music you listen to & what kind of sound are you aiming at from your upgrade?

All the best.
Cheers

hi neo, thanks for the suggestion, i have asked my friend to send me the DLS components and i will be getting it tomorrow. I will give the feedback after i install and hear it. I like soft and melodious music, with crispier and tight bass.I occasionally listen hiphop and i dont like rock and heavy metal music. Can u suggest me with the rainbow sub model no with enclosure. My friend have suggested me DLS IRIDUIM 12" SUB , how is it , can i go for it or shall i stick to rainbow. I would like to have a more like Sound Quality setup rather than SPL.

My installer says if i bridge the four channel amp to two channel and drive the front components there will be distortion and bridging should be done only for subwoofers and not for components and moreover the comps will get damaged if the gain is not set up properly, is that so?

you have 2 choices.
see what price you are getting back for the amp.if the price is good then sell/exchange

if not i would do the following.
i would bridge both pairs of channels of the 4 channel amp so that in effect i have a 2 channel amp
in this mode ( 2 channel mode) the amp gives out 150 rms of pure clean power

now i would give these bridged outputs to my components speakers .
upfront

now i would conect my rear speakers to the Head unit directly ( as is done in cars with no amp)
there is a sound reason for doing this.as explained below-(i have done the same in my car as well)

Hey! neels if the gain's are set properly you wont have a problem. But i doubt you need to bridge the amp to drive the front spk that you'll be choosing. So i suggest you use the amp as four channel.

Also fiesta has a std 5x7 spk for the front & rear spks then why have you gone for 6.5"?

If you can still fit the std spk then you should go for
rainbow slc 238.25 NG compo for the front( approx 15k)
rainbow sl 5x7 for the rear (app 9k)

The woofer with std encloure by rainbow is hurricane 12" NG which is a hammer with a custom built enclosure.(app 22K)

Or you can go for the Image Dynamics ID12V3D4 (14K) but you'll have to get the enclosure made.

If you want depth in your bass go for ID, But i guess you'll be fine with the hurricane. I would stay form the DLS sub.

Also i'd like to know the pricing for the DLS Sub & components.

I hope that helps
All the best
Cheers.

Hey! neels or any one out there
have preeti tradings dhingreja's contact details as i have a MTX amp which needs to get repaired. The details on the web site seem to've changed.
Thanks

if your components are only 50-60 rms rated then yes there may be distortion and they might blow (i say might because chances of a speaker fialing whenits underpowered are way higher than it failing when its overpowered) if your gains are high

howvere a decent branded component speaker (80-100rms and above like the GZ's ive suggested)will take 100 rms easily.
just set the gains to 65-70% you should be fine in my opinion.

Anyway if your installer himself is unsure you can do as he says.
however if you dont bridge the channles and provide only 50 rms to the speaker remember you cant crank up the volume too high.
speaker failure is highest due to a phenonmenon called clippping that takes place when speaker is underpowered
however if you are going with what your installer suggest see that you get a correct speaker match for 50 rms
in this case i think those focal access components would be good

However dont expect a very huge difference in the sound with these.

Also i hope you are using Time allignemnt correctly in your HU ( thats ofcourse if it has this feature)

@magma, My headunit does not have the time alignment facility, as you have suggested i will set the gain to 60%. The DLS comps is 80watts rated, hope there will be some difference in the sound quality. One of my friend is having a soundquality amp which he says is driven by valve technology. I don't remember the name correctly, i will confirm and let you know. He says the original cost of the amp is more than one lakh, he is going abroad so he is giving it for 65000. He suggested to connect a 3 way component to that amp (its a 2 channel amp) and remove the back speakers so that the soundstage will be good, he is having a pioneer P880... single DIN headunit which is for sale also.Is that head unit a good one ?

wow you wanna upgrade to a vlave amp now and also another HU
you basically changing your entire system
seems like you got hold of some money even in recesion!

Anyway to enjoy valve amps you would require high end compos (at least the carbon series) also are you ready for it yet?
Also note the resale value for such amps really goes down
i would take a pass.

Now the pioneer HU is good but so is yours, iwould consider a change only if you get your HU exchanged for the same price
ALso i dont think that pion will play DVD's will it?

Hey! Neels thanks for the info do you have their mail ID?

I agree with magma & feel that a valve amp would be a big jump for you.
Also owning & maintaing a valve amp is task in itself. though pl let us know the brand & model of the amp to enable us to comment further.
You'll also be looking at better(read aslo expensive) spk if you wish to go for such a high end amp.
Also agree magama on the head unit.
All the best.
Cheers
