Hi All,

I am going to setup my home theatre onkyo 5500 in my new flat. The size of the room is 14.5 X 10. Please suggest whether it is worth setting up Front 2 height Channels. ie. Dolby Pro logic IIz or go for back sorround i.e dolby prologic IIx setup

Thanks,
Mahesh

For the room size mentioned surround back speakers would not do any justice, as the spacing will be very close for you to get any effect or enjoy the effect. Hence in IMO you can chose to have front height instead which you would be able to enjoy.

In fact my hall being 26 feet long some times my surround back use to roll off with the surrounds resulting in smudged pile of sound which I have to over come by adjusting level according to the scene and movie.

In my opinion front height is simply waste of money, 80% of the time those speakers are silent. Moreover there is no mention in Manuel about the wattage for those speakers or power supplied by amp.

Would not recommend to buy speakers just for front heights, if you have some lying around that are not being used, then it would be a great idea to use them as front heights..............which is what I have done.

I do have two speakers that have come with the set. Does having them as front height give more effect compared to having them as sorround back for a 14.5 X 10 room?

For your room size would not suggest surround back...........would be an overkill, go with front heights.
