Hi all,

Would like to restore my Philips ga 242 that was in the junk. used new belts for the drive motor as well as the platter. Runs very fast. Need help on rpm adjustment

US

the 242 has a electronic speed control, would require some alignment.

Take a piece of paper and cut it to the shape of an LP record, mark a point on the outer edge, put it on the turntable and start spinning. The mark should cross any fixed point 33 and 1/3 of a revolution for LP speed and 45 times for 45rpm. This is a simple way to test if the speed is correct.

Hi,

you will need a Strobe, you may take a printout of the protractor which i have attached, this will help yo fine tune the speeds for both 33 and 45 rpm

i am not sure if there is a speed adjustment knobs given on the dashboard for manually fine tuning the speeds, if not you may want to open the tt and you must find a small circuit board and on that, you will find two variable resistors which can be adjusted as required

Hope it helps

Regards

I have repaired same problem for one FM here. It has 3 places on main PCB to look for - speed select switch, and those 2 preset variable resistances(200ohm each). One preset is for 33rpm and other is for 45 rpm.
Basically these all 3 points, specially switch and wiper of preset, contact had developed some oxidation and high resistance value. Just cleaned it carefully.
For setting speed you have to keep it bottom on some high platform and access preset from below. Use plastic screw driver to avoid accident.
TT is good. Download service manual from vinylengine or PM me your email id, I will send it.
