Garrard 6400 restoration

Sachin,

If my memory serves me right someone here had ordered silicon damping fluid. If the seller offers worldwide shipping it should reach you no? I got silicon fluid as part of my damping SME kit and disc doc record cleaning fluid too.

Regards

Regarding oil for lubrication, it is important that it should be "non-gumming".
Motor oils like 10w40 meet this requirement, and have been recommended a lot
on forums like audiokarma. I have used it for my Dual 1229 restoration too.
I understand even good sewing machine oils are non-gumming, so should be ok.

Many of the service manuals quote old, outdated products by brand. For Dual, I
found this info which gives modern equivalents for the recommended lubricants -

Renotac No. 342 Adhesive Oil
Use Automotive Synthetic Motor Oil 10W-30W

BP Super Viscostatic 10W/30
Use Automotive Synthetic Motor Oil 10W-30W

Shell Alvania No. 2
Use any White Lithium Based Grease with the consistency of Vaseline, but don't use Vaseline.
(Shell Alvania #2 is a general purpose lithium soap grease with a useful temperature range
of -40 F to +280 F. EP2 (LF) grade.)

Isoflex PDP 40
Use Automotive Synthetic Motor Oil 10W-30W

Silicone Oil
Online or ebay Hobby shops that sells Model Electric Trains or Slot Cars stock
Silicone Oil , also known as as diff oil. Kyosho is a reputed brand.
Use the service manual suggested weight rating (ranges from 50K to 500K)

Molykote
Use any White Lithium Based Grease with the consistency of Vaseline, but don't use Vaseline.

Original Molykote is available in India, but comes in 1KG packs.
Molykote Range

White lithium grease is available at all car parts shops (called white bearing grease)

Silicone oil is also available locally, but need to search if the right weight rating is available -

@ Sachin, sorry for late reply. Here is picture taken from mobile of silicon oil.

Some good and bad news. As these things are not selling, my friend has stopped stocking them. Got few bottles from old stock. I think viscosity is good and would be good for tonearm cueing. Not sure as I don't know the weight it will be damping.
regards

Just remembered, the garrard I restored has two plastic disc pressed against each other which dampens the tonearm lowering. There is one screw and a little spring to adjust the speed at which the tonearm drops.
