Hi.
I am in SA and have just upgraded my music system. I was running a Asus Extreme Striker II which became faulty and I replaced it with the new Gigabyte X79-UP4 (LGA 2011) motherboard. I also upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro with a Windows 8 Media Center Pack.

My problem is, when playing my ripped music DVD's via the Media Center I cannot get the S/PDIF (RCA digital connection) to deliver 5.1 DTS of Dolby Digital Pro-Logic signal to my Yamaha AV Amp. I used to get this done on my previous system.

Has anyone solved such a problem? I will much appreciate assistance. Must I download Audio Drivers, if so what is recommended for HD sound systems?

First check if the dvd rips have audio in 5.1 using mediainfo tool. Most dvd rips have only 2 channel audio. If the rips originally have 5.1 adjust the audio settings of the player. I suggest you to try xbmc. Audio settings is very easy with xbmc media center.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
