Hi,
I have tons of downloaded movie rips (avi, mp4, mkv)and want to buy a good BD player to complement by Samsung 40" LCD .I also watch a lot of streaming content on the net.

My first thought was of buying a good TV Media player as I have a lot of downloaded content than BD/DVD's. But I was recommended to go for a good BD player which could also double up as a media player. In this respect
can you'll please suggest one which can satisfy my requirement ?

One more query that I want to put forward.

Does a TV Media Player upscale SD avi,mp4 content better than a BDP ? I have a lot of downloaded content which are not of high quality.

thanks

I think your decision of buying HD media player was correct one. Why invest in something that you not gonna use?

I am sure there will be media player with upscale facility. My media player doesn't have that though.

AFAIK, all new BDPs are having Cinavia control. Anyway, it actually controls how the Blu Ray discs are played and managed, rather than controlling the various media formats it supports in addition to the blu-ray discs.

In fact all new BDPs are geared up to play most of the common media formats. In any case, if a particular formats are not supported, either you can manage by converting it into something like MP4 or MKV files, which are supported by almost all BDPs. Better buy something with a 3D capability as few movies are better enjoyed that way like the IMAX series, few animation movies like Tintin, VFX/ CGI movies like Avatar etc.

All new BD discs needs Cinavia support, and if you buy an old BDP (without Cinavia), there might be a possibility of some of them not working. Try to gather more info on this.

BDT220 is a really good one, the new one is BDT230 (pana). Else there are few from Sony S4100, S490 etc. All are 3D capable.

Hi Babruvahan,

If you have your budget open, take a look at Dune HD Max media player.
Bang for the buck product with high VFM factor. This model is with built-in optical drive. World's first hybrid media player.
I am using it in my home theater and very happy with the performance.

Man it costs a bomb at 40K plus. Am I right? That's a really costly option.

At that price he can get a BDP player plus O play or other media players and still have half the money in bank.

I have LG BDP-420 and it plays almost all the formats I have(mkv, mp4, flv, etc) including 3D content(SBS). I am not sure about its upscaling capability though(dont think it does at all) as most my rips are pretty high quality ones.

Regards,
S.

Have you heard of Macgo Mac Blu-ray player? I thought this is a good choice fot your downloaded movies. Don't worry, it is available for both Mac and PC.
