Hi, I recently got myself a pair of Dali Opticon 8's. I'm running them with a Nad C388. Right now I'm using a standard 12 gauge ICE cable. My amp and speaker setup needs asymmetrical wire lengths - as the right speaker is a lot further away from the amp. I've tried the audioquest rocket 33 and to be honest there wasn't much of a difference. Only in certain portions of certain tracks I felt the aq33 were maybe just a little rounded - specially in high mid frequencies. No discernable difference otherwise. Just wanted to ask if there are any better & cost effective alternatives? Or should I continue with the ICE. Many thanks in advance...

Continue with the ICE. The speakers and amp do not need any fancy cables at all. They will only make shifts that won't be worth it.

Congrats... very good pair of speakers.
Have heard them driven by various top notch amps and various speaker cables. They are that good.
A change in speaker cables will bring about a change in tonal quality of the speaker. Eg. A little more bass with one cable and a little more airiness with another cable.
There is no such thing as better cable.
It depends on which sound you prefer, which cable matches your system better, the amount you're willing to spend on them and finally... the time and patience to do cable changes.

As said by audiopro above, your Ice cables are good enough unless you find something missing which another cable may bring about.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't say there's anything missing. I only noticed a very slight difference when I did a proper comparison - playing a track, changing cables and playing the same track. Recorded both and played those back to back. The aq33's sounded like they're just a wee bit less airy than the ICE - that too in high volume. Honestly, I wouldn't even know if I hadn't done all comparison.

Cables are kinda ice cream flavour. They are all good, but we all have our own favorite flavour.

Cable length has to be the same always ; that way the signal travels the same distance.

It is always like that with Speaker Cables, There will be difference (Maximum will be 5-10%) but you will be short of correct vocabulary, to explain the exact difference. Luckily we need not scratch our head as to what correct wording is, Just pick the one which sounds better. That's why it becomes hard to buy Cables without home audition for a week.

Important thing here is , there is a difference and do multiple auditions comparisons on different tracks and take a call.

My preferred flavour is warm with a little tilt towards neutral

Yes, absolutely. But in this case the right speaker needs around 30 feet of wire and the left, since it's next to the amp, needs only 3 feet. The extra length will result in a coil. Won't this create more distortion?

Congrats... very good pair of speakers.

Hi. Thanks. I saw in another post that you have the opticon 8, what are your thoughts? May I ask what your setup is? - amp, cables etc

I would comprise by having the coil but not having unequal cable lengths . And here the inequality is by a significant margin. My vote is for living with the coil and having equal cable lengths.

The problem is uneven length will change impedance, as was explained to me by Mr. Nakra of the Enbees. My apologies if I am completely wrong, it is possible I do not remember what he told me correctly.
