Got a "new" Pioneer PL 200 Turntable

Been furiously searching through forum posts about places to buy records in Kolkata. Found no info. Members, any pointers please? I am in KOL and keen to check out what's available here.
Thanks in advance,
Joshua

Check out Free School Street, close to where it joins the road that comes down from New Market. There's a road side stall (run by a chap called Ilyasbhai) that has LPs, though the external display is largely cassettes and CDs. He has an inner room which is well stocked, though the condition of most LPs is pretty foul.

A little further down (towards Park street), there's another shop which also has some, but I can't be sure, as it's about four years since I've last been there.

Visited Free School Street (now officially known as Mirza Ghalib Street) off Park Street. Saw two places that sell records, one willing to take me to his warehouse only post 7 pm so couldn't wait. The other guy stocked it in his shop (closer to New Market side), picked up 8 records. A bit pricey (usually Rs 150 or Rs 250, but a George Harrison Greatest Hits was Rs 500, and The Beatles Love Songs double disc was 1500!). Jackets were almost uniformly in bad condition but the records themselves were in fair condition.

Hi Joshua,

Get down at Esplanade metro station. Ask for Jyoti cinema in Dharamtolla. Walk past Jyoti cinema, you will reach Kamlalaya Centre (shopping arcade). Once there ask for Mashooq Jamal. Though he is a skinner he has some good collection. Ranging from mint to average.

I bought Pink Floyd The Wall CBS Japan, virgin LPs from him.
Pls call me at the earliest, shall give details of more places. I don't want a fellow vinyl lover to miss out on the treasure that Kolkata has.

Hi Prateek,
Thanks so much for info. Now I am safely back in Mumbai. Will note this for next KOL trip.

Could you post your impressions of the TT? I'm picking up it's lower variant - the PL100 sometime this week.

Decent. But not great. Compared to my later TTs it sounded generally lethargic, and lacks the enthusiastic attack of, say a Thorens TD 160 Mark II B (which was my next TT), even when using the same cartridge and audio chain. Also, it wasn't particularly refined, especially with the M44-7 that I was using at that time, with the in-built phono stage of the Marantz PM 6003 integrated. I essentially used mine only for a short time, so I'm speaking only from old memories.

BTW, I have heard one model up in the same PL series, and it wasn't much better either. So from purely sonics point of view, I would not recommend it.

I'm picking it up for background listening while I'm working or off to sleep. I needed a cheap TT with auto return so that I don't have to go and turn it off every time, and the choice was either this, or a bunch of cheap 90's P mounts.
With this at least I can re use my growing collection of headshells and carts. I have an SL 1210 otherwise

I was a bit worried about the plinth (unlike its predessors from the PL 514 and equivalents) wasnt wood. I suppose it doesn't make a difference
