1)Where can we get the best priced, gramophone needles in India?
2) How much is the market price per 100 Nos?
3) Is there any category of 'Loud' needles available?
4) How often we need to change the needles?

Help needed pls. Thanks in advance

These are easily available at Chandni Chowk market in New Delhi. The original needles are really loud and sometimes you might have to stick a cloth in the tubings to actually reduce the sound.

Needle needs to be changed after playing two sides of a record. By carefully twisting the needle, you can make it play a total of four sides. This can be further increased a little by applying lubricating sewing machine oil on the playing surface before playing the record, using a moist cloth.

(remember this all is for gramophones and shellac based 78rpm records and don't even think of trying it with modern turntables or LPs.)

I have actually seen a person playing 45rpm vinyls on a gramophone with the iron needles. Sound was obviously thin and I shudder to think of the condition of those poor vinyls.

At one side we are discussing about ways of vinyl bathing and at one side this 'exploitation'!!What can we say except...ummm...'pretty unfortunate batch of EPs'.

What would be the indicative price, in Indian markets?

The antique dealer gave me a free a box of Victorola needles in rusty conditions. Then on the lanes, I purchased 10 needles @ Rs.10/needle, which seems to be on the higher side.

need some help here, cos I was wondering if I should buy it from e-bay or have local sources..

I had bought needles around 5 years back. A pack of 100 needles was for Rs. 350 and I knew that he was looting me.

New Gramophone House also sells needles.
There are two types available one for 150 and another for 250 (with both having 200 needles)

Here is the link where you can see that and some other spares :-

Both seem to be out of stock for now but He can arrange them for you.
In Bangalore, Seetaphone on Avenue Road also keeps them.
