Dear All,
I have a 1 TB Western digital external hard disk and while connecting it directly to Samsung 32D5000 TV the hdd is detected. But if i connect the same to the extension USB cable the HDD is not detected. It is very cumbersome to plug in and plug out the HDD every time to the TV directly.

Can anybody suggest any alternatives how to make this work.

Regards,
Mr Patnayak

I can remember it's clearly written in online samsung tv manual that hdd won't work if connected using extension cable.

Even I had similar issue.

1. You can try good quality extension to connect the HDD to your TV. Some, local extension would not be having power lines.

2. Not all USB ports of TV support HDD. I think this you must have been verified.

I found connecting HDD each and every time to TV is a cumbersome work. So,. I adopted AllShare. My HDD is connected with my Laptop in another room. Laptop and TV are connected with Wifi. Of course, you need Samsung Wifi USB dongle for this.

I use TvMobili DLNA server in my Laptop. It seamlessly connects all my AllShare devices. 1. TV 2. Tab 3. Mobile Phones etc.

All required media directory from HDD are shared from DLNA server and it is available 24X7 to my TV.

May be a powered usb hub can help. Also try a shorter usb cable and ensure that the cable is not faulty.

most of the hard drives - be it powered or usb powered has mini USB connector.

get a long usb - mini usb cable . USB end will be permanantly in TV . just detach hard drive - attach when necessary ....usb mini usb cable should not cost you much

did you check whether the extension USB cable is faulty.... try connecting to your computer/laptop
One of my friend connects his HDD to 32d5000 using extension USB... hence I dont see it a problem with TV... more over anyway you are able to connect the hdd directly to TV.

Even I had the same problem and posted the same in Samsung CNET Forum. One of the Samsung Technician replied saying he will check on this.
Hopefully if there is a solution for your problem this would help me as well.

hi All

I guess its due to the Non Powered USB drives. I have connected my 1TB External Power HD with an Extension cable to my D6000 and works perfect...

Guess USB powered HD doesnt support the extension cables, try using a external powered HD and it should work..

So you are saying if he has external HDD like me 2.5" which is USB powered he should invest on another external HDD which has power supplied?
Seriously?

You have not specified the length of the USB cable. If it is above 5m than it may or may not work. Also try good quality cable you can try MX cable / Connect Cable or other good quality cable as local cables will not work.

well.....i have samsung LED 40D5500RR and same model is there with my frnd......i am using 2 USB extension to connected PEN Drive / 1 TB Seagate.......my 1 TB HDD dosn't get recognized in one of the port where pen drives are working fine but the same 1 TB works fine in another port.....and the same problem one of my frnd is also facing, he have the same model too........some of the usb port dosn't support larg drives ??

It's like one usb for pen drive and other for hdd. Hdd won't work on pen drive slot.

Thanks for your views guys .The USB cable is working with a 8 GB pendrive and it is connected to the HDD USB port. And the USB extension cable i am using is a non branded china product. So what would be the possible solutions
1-Buy a new external power HDD . -Not feasible
2-Buy a good quality extension cable - Can some one suggest a good brand or the cable which is supporting HDD.
3-Buy a extension USB to micro B cable to connect the HDD- I am not getting this cable in my city. And if i order it from ebay and it doest not work waste of money.
4-Use All share- This is not working from my BSNL modem via lan and i do not intend to buy samsung wi fi dongle.

So the alternative i am using is copying the video files to my 8 gb pendrive and viewing. Please suggest any better alternatives
