Hi All,

I had shortlisted the Denon 1612 and Paradigm speakers. But while going through the east Street at Pune camp, i went to Sound Factor to check some other models. I had a demo for Harman Kardon (receiver 265) with 5.1 Harman Kardon speakers.

The sound was really good. (sometime i thought it is more better than Denon and Paradigm combination). well this is my personal opinion because i evaluated the system more from Music (audio) side. The output for movie is slighly above average.

I request all the experts to let me know your comments on Harman Kardon system. Any reports?

Regards,
Sai

Thanks for the reply.

The quote i got is

Speakers : Harman Kardon HKTS 30 - 45K
AVR: Harman Kardon AVR 265 - 45 K

Is the same price in Mumbai as well?

I think denom posted rs 42 k for 3600 model which is a little better than the 265 but it does not have the audio return feature or 3d pls check

i own HK255 since 3 years. Am satisfied. I think u can get the HK265 at JBL Store in Mumbai for 40k. Please go by your ear.

Sairaut,

Both can be got for 38k in mumbai. The prices you got are the MRP's.

Thanks everyone for your opinion.
Honestly, i found the sound very much crystal clear with HK 265 and HKTS30. After going through IndiaJBL website, i am thinking of getting HK AVR 265 and HKTS60.

Denom - Thanks for the suggestion. Can i get the deal at Avenue Sound @ Palm Beach Road?

For AVRs you cant beat Marantz/Denon/Onkyo/Yamaha.............they are a class apart in receivers. However, if you feel HK works for you, then go for it. At the end you need to like the sound. HK tends to play more bright which might work for movies but not so much for music.

There are some good combos for sale on the forum and also on hifimart with Denon/Marantz receivers + 5.1 satellite systems. These would sound better than HK, and for sure Denon + Paradigm should sound better than HK, but all depends on what you like.

Yes aakash. The offer on hifimart on BA sounds tempting. Unfortunately none of the showroom has the Boston Acaustics+Denon 1612 for demo. I am planning to travel to mumbai for having demo on the said combination.
As i said, i am open for all the options as long as my ears are satisfied with the performance
Aakhir paapi kaan ka sawal hai ;)

Actually u should have come down to mumbai for the last 2 meets... My 2 exp with denon were during these meets... In the cinebel meet the denon clearly sucked balls... This really shocked all of us attending the meet as we have heard such high praise for denon 1912 on HFV... Then during the last HT meet at Avenue sound we were initially testing the yamaha 571 vs the Denon 2112(I think that was the model number) & the yahama 571 sounded better even though it is much cheaper than the 2112... Next we were testing the HK 3600 vs the Yamaha 3010 vs the Denon 2312 & I can tell u with absolute confidence that everyone present found the HK 3600 better than the others even though it costs less than half of the 3010... For me the best judge is my own ear(even though I am not an audiofile)... I would sincerely request anyone who still feel the Denon 1912 is better than yamaha or HK to pls come down to mumbai or have an HT meet in Pune to prove me wrong... I know what I am saying might seem like sarcasm but believe me it is a genuine request... In both of the last 2 meets we have been asking ourselves why does everyone go gaga over the 1912 & I would really like to see why (more importantly "hear" why)... So many ppl on this forum(including some really distinguished audiofiles) cant be all wrong about the 1912 being this amazing AVR...

Denon AVR used to be superior upto 2006 I suppose, later the sound Q changed.Always check the model personally.Only going by names may not achieve the goal.eg.Sony CRTs used to be superior, but with LCD,they have problems.

Having been used both Denon and HK in past 6 months, I consider myself qualified to share a piece of my mind. Short answer is HK is much better than Denon, and the long answer is, With its High Current output HK drives the speaker lot better than Denon. When I bought my home theater , I went for Denon 1912, even thought it was good I kept thinking that its not driving my Tsi 400s well enough, so I sold the denon and went for HK AVR 460 and the change was night and day. The vocals are much pronounced, even thought HK is bit bright sounding than Denon, its lot more musical. On paper HK's power rating are usually lesser than others but every brand has its own way of measuring power. My denon stated 80 WPC , HK was just 60WPC but out performed Denon in every aspect.

between, now I sold my HK, sub, center etc as well after realizing that I am really not a home theater guy, but stereo, so went for Naim nait 5i :)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
