The online site here: Amazon.com: OPPO BDP-93 Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player: Electronics

says that the Oppo BD-93 is available for Rs. 29,000/-

is it the total landed cost, or do we have to pay duties extra?

Has anyone tried buying it from here?
Is it reliable?

I'm breaking my head over which BR player to buy. And looks like Oppo is the only way to go.
Others are just not convincing enough.

I think it's high time Oppo started selling directly in India.

The normal BD players in USA (Region A) are selling for around $120 or less. The Indian BD players (Region C) are selling for around Rs.9,000. So it is cheaper to buy two players than one universal one. If you are lucky, try to get hold of a Onida BDX 1110 which some members of the forum cracked to make it universal. It was selling for around Rs.5,000.

i dont think a blu ray player will improve the picture quality...it depends on ur tv settings and blu ray disc quality.the difference might be interfacing or upscaling from dvds..and many optional features such as extra audio or video slots.all these are my opinions and i am not a pro..waiting for pro members to answer the query.

Hi intacto ..
I'm just pasting the details from Oppo ;
" Qdeo by Marvell - The BDP-93 incorporates Marvell's Kyoto-G2 video processor with the second generation Qdeo technology. Qdeo video processing delivers a truly immersive viewing experience by rendering quiet natural video free of noise and artifacts for all types of content. For high-quality Blu-ray content, the BDP-93 faithfully reproduces the program just as the director intended; for DVD, the up-converted picture quality bridges the visual gap from your current DVD library to Blu-ray discs; for network streaming and user-encoded content at a variety of formats and quality, the BDP-93 offers enhancement options including video noise reduction, compression artifact reduction, intelligent color, contrast, detail and edge enhancements "

What about Onida BDX 1110 ??? Which Video processor ?? any idea ??

The image quality mainly depends on the video processor.

If you primarily watch blu ray's then the quality of video processing matters very little. As the blu ray source has high quality and you would use the HDMI out to pass the video and audio out to the avr/processor.

But in the real world, you would probably use it also to watch dvd's, blu ray rips and rips of various qualities. In this case, the quality of the upscaler, the image correction software matters.

The region free option is there in multiple devices from Sherwood and Dune (probably also the Onida) which are factory fit region-free to the Panasonic and Oppo which can be made region free using a mod kit.

The flexibility of region free is very useful as the cheapest BD's come from US and UK. So buying only a Region A one will not be useful unless you have someone who can get you the disks from the US. Amazon UK does direct shipping to India.

Hope this helps.
