Hi, having trouble while playing blue rays which have HD master audio. my avr is not playing hd master audio bluerays. there is no audio when ever these blue rays a played. other blue rays with dts is playing normal. Noticed this problem a couple of months back and did a reset on the avr. Worked fine a couple of movies and again the problem occurred. what could be the probable reason. using a denon 1910 avr and an oppo bd 103 player. When ever a Hd audio bd is played, the light on the avr lights up, but there is no audio output. Has anyone faced such a problem..

Select Bitstream as the HDMI audio output setting of your Blu-ray player, the player will bypass its own internal Dolby and DTS audio decoders and send the undecoded signal to your HDMI-connected home theater receiver. With this setting, the home theater receiver will do all the audio decoding of the incoming signal.

As a result, in this case, the receiver will display Dolby, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, etc...on its front panel display depending on which type of bitstream signal is being decoded.

Connect your HDMI 1.2 cable to the HDMI2 connector of your oppo bd 103 player,as HDMI1 output is meant for only video to be connected to either t.v projector.whereas HDMI does both a/v

Your HDMI cable should be HDMI v1.3 and higher to enable to transport the high definition audio formats as a compressed, encoded stream over HDMI to the a/v receiver.

Let me know the results now,,,

Cheers
Rajesh

Thanks Rajesh.
my connection is as follows : projector hdmi > arv monitor out hdmi> bd player in hdmi
Will have to check the settings of bd player for bitstream as hdmi.

While playing hd master audio discs, the avr is able to receive the signal and is displayed on the avr. There is no output howerver. Will recheck and let you know tomorrow. I have aslo connected the bd player directly to the tv to rule out issues with the bdplayer, when it is connected through the avr there is no audio output

Try bit streaming in bdplayer settings, that should solve problem, connect HDMI cable 1.3v,I hope you have it to HDMI2 on your bdplayer > HDMI in of your Avr.

Still no audio then you check yr Avr try connecting any audio gadgets (cd/dvd/cell phone) as input source to test Avr amp if its working..

Tried setting the hdmi option to bitstream in bdplayer. no change in audio output. Other formats are playing except hd audio. My connection between avr and bdp is through hdmi

I use an AVR which cannot decode DTS HD MA but can understand DTS. My understanding is that the DTS HD Audio comprises of Core DTS signal which gets picked up by older receivers if they cannot decode DTS HD MA. Bear in mind that DTS-HD MA would only work over HDMI connections and not on Co-axial or Optical out connections. As a simple test, I'd connect the Optical Audio Out or Coax Out from BD Player to AVR and see if I can get the audio. I'd presume you have already tested with another disk which has DTS-HD MA audio track.

Hope this helps.

Rajiv

i have tried playing other discs with hd ma, but none are playing. some discs which were playing earlier are also not playing now. seems to be a problem with the avr in decoding.

For timebeing try multichannel analog 5.1/7.1 connection from your bdp to avr multichannel in,here you r bypassing avr as decoding,it acts just like an amp,all the encoding/decoding is done by the bdp.

you hv to buy separate analog RCA connectors for each channel, what happens is you will be getting
true hd 24bit/192khz (dolby truehd/drs hd master ) audio quality..your avr will not display this may display lpcm. You hv to select the source as external analog input in yr avr.

But before trying multichannel analog pcm,try buying a new hdmi cable 1.3v and above for the bdp to pass truehd to avr this is also one cause.

or even try this.
Once you've set your BD player to 'bitstream' and 2nd aydio off,you need to go into the amps settings.

Selet your source (BD player)
Press MENU
INPUT SELECT
INPUT MODE
You get two sub headings which should look like this,
INPUT MODE - DIGITAL
DECODE MODE - AUTO

This makes sure the amp decodes the bitstreamed HD Audio and your pretty blue light should light up.

Let me know. .

see that your hdmi cable us 1.3 version and above or else it cannot pass truehd

few additional points to be considered.

1. Make sure your BR player is outputting in 1080p. Sometimes the denon recievers can be "seen" as a non hd device. so if your video output is in auto it will scale to 576. Manually set the output to 1080p and the HD audio will follow.
2. You need to update your bluray player/avr firmware to the latest one, this also will surely solve the problem.

I had investigated a similar problem for my x1200, but it turned out that my laptop did not support HD sound.
I had come across a few suggestions from different forums for 1910. Since your AVR recognises the sound format but does not output sound, see if any of this work
1.go to menu, -> manual setup -> HDMI setup -> Audio out <Amp> - Check if this is correct.
2. Mute, unmute sound on your oppo a few times - this helps sometimes
3. Power up the BDP first and then the AVR
4. Turn off the hdmi control of your TV/Projector.
5. Check if your firmware is nov 2009 or older... if so update to later firmware - you have to go to a Denon service centre for this preferably.
Hope this helps
