HD681 cans that deliver at Rs1600

people say :
HD681 with Deep low frequency
For an On stage sound = classical music & large ensembles (jazz?)

HD681F with Flat extended frequency response.
For a Front row sound image = pop music and vocals

HD681B with Balanced character and powerful bass punch
For an In hall feel = rock music / exciting performances

i think bass punch one (HD681B )will do good , i like HD681 if the lines are true !

sound review:
Played few tracks to evaluate initial SQ before burnin..
track susan wong "when u say nothing all" - nice and accurate piano

sheryl crow "everyday is a winding road" -i can enjoy each percussion instruments slight more bass in this track

Dave Matthews Band "Pay For What You Get" --this track can be used to evaluate the sound stage..really good
willie nelson 'Dream come true' ...liked violins and piano
even from Laptop card(no ext dac)
other things that one will notice :they have a clever automatic size adjustment system, lightweight, open and airy sound and smooth treble etc ....

@kaushik: Please compare with PL30. With your review on PL30 earlier I went ahead and bought it from Lynx (any yr ago). enjoying every bit of it.

@amarbirji
the lynx store is a true friend to audiophiles in india ..
@rajeshg
PL30 is an IEM and HD681 is a can... both are apple-orange
varients .one common factor is that both are VFM products.
I suggest to guys think these before buying cans,

- bigger headphones are suitable for the places where you sit back and listen..fortunately in my office also it is allowed..
-if you are in cab/car because of the open nature these HPs, sound gets mixed with road noise
-on the move means IEM ,but listening for long hours
on IEM is harmful for ears
-HPs can be modded for further enhancements easily
-They (HD681)need a better amp like cmoy , fiio E3 just manages to drive these but i would say not a suitable candidate for these
pics here , cell phone camera not doing great job here

Got myself HD668B. Landed cost is a little higher for me as I chose Priority USPS with full insurance and tracking ($30). But these seem like worth even the landed cost ($70). Not too fresh now to post photos or impressions. Will do so in due course of time. Just a couple of points.

  • I won't dare to walk outside with them on my head. Not as bad as AD-700, but close ;). But then these are monitoring phones meant to be used inside.
  • At least for the half an hour listening session, they did not burn my ears and make me sweat like the MS1i.
  • Bass is good. A few say these don't go deep - a claim I've not tested yet. Rest of the frequency response seems flat. I could not "detect" a particular signature in my short listening.
  • It makes 128kbps files sound crappy. Either due to bad ripping (not me, but some XYZ ) or these reproduce compression artifacts well, those did not sound anywhere near pleasing.
  • Decently driven via S9 (Volume = 20) + iBasso T3 (both gain switches engaged, Volume = 8). I've not tested them with a headphone amp like D1 or even uDAC yet.
  • These come with detachable cables. The cables are terminated in standard mini (3.5mm) jack. One is a longer cable (did not measure) and another is the shorter cable I am using now.
Any other Superlux owners who are yet to announce their membership?

Santosh ,
Today i Tried The Samson SR850 Also Mind Blowing .I showed it to Sunny one one my clients and friend " He took it away even before i could test " ;-) .BTW does anyone know that what model is the samson SR850 in the suplerlux series .As superlux makes the same for samsun

^ HD668B - according to this review

BTW, Amarbir! Do you have all the three models of their IEM i.e., HD381, HD381F and HD381B?

I was reading earfonia's review yesterday. Seemed like a hyperbole to me - comparing $20 IEMs to $200-400 IEMs. My ears don't agree with what he has written about TF10 - TF10 has best vocals among the set? Sheesh! That apart, HD381 do seem like value for money IEMs. And Semi-open IEMs are always generally liked by me, because they do tend to have a largish sound stage. I would love to test if they actually have 'better' imaging than TF10 - that's a very tall claim where I come from. But.....may be later. I am trying to pass this month without spending a dime on IEMs. My addiction needs to be controlled :o
