Hello everyone. Glad to be a new member of this forum and look forward to reading and posting. I am going to spend a bit reading up on HTPCs and read posts here in the forum and do a little research. Afterwards I look forward to posting my plans and see if anyone has any recommendations or concerns.

Currently I cut the cord with cable and internet. I don't have cable anymore and I tether my 4G phone for internet access. Works wonderfully. I use Netflix, Hulu, an HD antenna, and my home video collection on my PC that is connected to my Samsung LCD TV. I am going to be using an XBMC for software.

I want to get the most out of my Home theater PC. I want to figure out what soundcard to get and what speakers to use to get the best possible sound. I want to figure out what input media i should get / remotes/ media keyboards etc. And that about it. If anyone has built a HTPC or converted there home PC into one I'd love to chat with them.

Look forward to reading and posting.

I built an HTPC using a Gigabyte MB, and an AMD processor. I have a Samsung Blu-ray drive, 4MB of RAM, and some 4TB of HDD. I also have a ATI video card that is updated with the latest software. The whole thing is cased in a Silverstone HTPC cabinet.

I fooled around with a lot of software and finally settled down with PowerDVD that works flawlessly. I had to do a bit of EDID modification to get my Onkyo 875 to read HD Audio properly. Now things work perfectly for up to 1080P. I plan to reinstall the OS and install just PowerDVD so that I have no useless codecs or drivers hanging around.

Cheers

you prefer PowerDVD over XMBC? does it have support for HD audio? are you able to play mkv in HD audio?
