Hi,

After waiting for a fortnight, I finally got my Marantz 6007 delivered by Overnite (read Fortnite) express. Now because of frequent power cuts in Hyderabad, I am in a dilemma. Though we have generator backup for our apartments, there will be break of 30 seconds to 1 minute and sometimes more before the power comes back. Also sometimes the voltage is very low. So I was thinking of using an invertor or UPS (2500VA) plus a voltage stabilizer for connecting the AVR. But I saw a big notice in the carton of Marantz mentioning "warranty void if used on UPS / invertor power". So I am a bit concerned and confused what to do now. I am not very much worried about warranty and things like that.

But what is the issue if I use it with a proper sinewave invertor/UPS? If I dont use a UPS or Invertor what can be the impact on the AVR?

Please help me with your expertise in these matters gained over years/experience.

Thanks in advance,
Anish

As read in another forum (a post by gvenu), I am planning to go ahead with a 2KVA SRC series UPS from APC as protection. Though I am unable to figure out why Marantz came with such a disclosure though.

Some of the Invertors do not have a full sine wave out put and instead have a square wave output which damages the electronics.

You should be OK with using a UPS with full sine wave output. Typically the changeover time is higher in Inverter compared to an UPS. However both are in milliseconds -- a few 100 milli seconds for inverter vs less then 100 milli seconds for UPS. However I know some people who are able to run desktops on invertors with out a break. Not sure if the same applies to AVRs.

Thanks Jagadish. By the way, after reading some more expert visions (and horrors they have faced) am planning to add a 3KV servo stabilizer for the HT room along with the UPS. So mains -> Servo Stabilzer -> UPS is what i am thinking. Please lemme know your thoughts on the same.

Cheers :)

A servo is an overkill . In any case ensure that it has built in spike buster and over voltage cut off. Not sure if servos have these protections built in.

I use a stablizer from v guard - digital 200 for all my HT equipment. In addition I have APC ups 600 just to power my players and STB. The ups ensures that I do not have to restart the players and scroll to resume position. Our genset kicks in with in two minutes. The ups is connected to the stablizer

Sure. Servo might be an overkill, but after seeing some frightening discussions, I opted for this option as I wanted peace of mind while watching movies or listening music without worrying about our frequent powercuts and crazy fluctuations. The forum link below for a reference.

I've checked for one company's (Navreeti Group) and these protections are there (over/under voltage cut-off, short-circuit / overload etc.

Here you can get all products of Servo Voltage Stabilizers and Transformers

Another one I checked is Deltek Powerline's servo stabilizer. Don't have the details yet. Planning to go to their shop tomorrow.

Cheers

Thanks Jagadish. Sure I'll check the earthing and hopefully should be good as the apartment is from a reputed builder. If not, I'll have tough time chasing those dudes :). I stay at 9th Floor and so doing it on my own is not possible ;)
