Hi I just purchased a Philips HTS 5530 home theater from Reliance Digital yesterday. I am having trouble connecting the home theater to my LED TV (Samsung D5000). The Philips technician has yet to come and do the initial installing and wall mounting.
I took the liberty to set the home theater up on my own do the initial set up.

But my queries are few:

1. How do I connect my PS3 to my home theatre/TV such that I can channelize the sound through the home theater?
2. Can I connect my HD STB and PS3 all at the same time to my TV.

Help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

If your TV has an optical out and the home theater has an optical input, then connect them using optical cable. All other devices can be connected to the TV.

We always advise people to stay away form HTs from Philips, Sony, LG etc. because these lack the necessary inputs to connect your devices. There is not much you can do about it. If possible return it and get an Onkyo 3500.

Thank you for the info but I had a limited budget. Onkyo is and will be way out of my budget. My home theater has a coaxial input and my TV has a optical out. Is this what you are talking about?

Connecting optical out to coaxial input is not possible. Check whether your DTH box/PS3 has coaxial out. Another option is to use the LR or headphone out of TV to LR input of HTiB.

use audio in(red and whiote)..from rca out of tv and also from ps3 av out and from stb rca out.....u have to buy a rcs selector..or can manulayy change each time...

stv spdif out to coax in will work..try it

try to find optical to coax coneverter in ebay india...if avilable can buy it...so can connect from tv optical out to ht coax in......

You need optical to coaxial converter. For now use the auxiliary input to connect to LR line out of TV or STB or PS3. You will get a virtual surround sound.

Thank you all for the help. I will try the same. Isn't there degradation in audio quality using the auxiliary input to connect instead of the coaxial/optical output.

If you use digital audio then you will get true 5.1 sound while watching HD channels or while playing games with 5.1 channel audio on your PS3. With the auxliary input we are feeding the amp only two channel sound which is then converted to a pseudo surround sound by the amp which is no way close to the original 5.1 sound.

I found this while searching on ebay. Will this suffice?

My actual question is do I need to go for a cheaper converter as there are plenty on online sites or should I look for a better one. Its a one time buy. But this is pretty sad that most Phillips HTIB's come with coax while i checked some of the samsung HTIB's are equipped with optical out.

I'm not a audiophile as such so this quite pisses me off that I have to shell out an additional 2k on cables and signal splitter's just to make it work.

wish you had kept it simple like me. DVD player to stereo amp to speakers for audio and DVDp to cmputer screen throug HDMI to DVI converter. No STB, no PS3, no other source :). Anyway, the 5.1 bug is trying to bite me too and I am thinking of 5530. The connectivity options there are more than enough for me and my DVDp has co-ax out.

@shoumyaJ - That converter is what you need.

@jaudere - I suggest a 5.1 speaker system like Logitech Z906 or the older Yamaha 196. Should cost you around 19K, but will be better than the Philips HTiB.

Ok I'm getting the Phillips HTS 5530 exchanged for some thing better. I am willing to spend upto 30k. What options do I have.

Return the Philips and get an Onkyo 3500. It should cost you around 30K. Older model Onkyo 3400 should be around 25K. IMO, there is no need to spend the extra money for Onkyo 3500.

Yeah, please return Philips and get Onkyo 3400, there's no need to go for 3500 just for an additional USB port. You will also miss Audyssey EQ.
