Hello!
I am very new here!Went through most of the discussions but cudnt find what i was looking for.Im not very tech saavy....so i hope u guys will be patient with me.
I have a philips HTS4750 dvd home theatre.I want to get rid of this and get a philips blu ray player.Question is.....Can i just replave the dvd player with the blu ray player, keeping my old speaker setup from the HTS4750? Or will i have to get a whole new home theatre system?
Thank you.

4750 has integrated sub woofer with amplifier. You can not separate sub from amp. Further this sub-cum amp can not be used without the integrated DVD player cum console.
What you can do of this system in my opinion is attached the digital out of the BD player to HTS 4750 and BD player to TV through HDMI cable. 4750 would produce very good sound but since in spite of good up-scaling capabilities you can not attach external video source (BD player here) to it therefore need to connect the player directly to the TV.

Check whether your HT has optical or coaxial input. You can connect the optical/coaxial out of the BDP to the HT. If there is no optical/coaxial, then better sell it and buy a HTIB like Onkyo 3400. You will also need a BDP.

thank u guys for the quick reply but i am so confused with all these terms.....i have taken a pic of my HTS behind part, can i attach it here so u guys can see it?

4750 has "Digital In" on the rear panel of the console. Digital coaxial cable is also provided with the system. It is RCA type cable with black or orange sockets but thicker than the RCA cable. Just use that cable to connect the BD player to the system. If lost the provided cable, procure one.

Oh yes i see a "digital in" on the rear panel! Now im feelin so happy! and yes sir u are right....dont think i have the digital coaxial cable.....but im gonna go to croma and pick up one!
Just one thing....will i definately be able to connect the bluray player to this console via this method?
Thanks so much for ur help!

You can, I use my Tata SKY and BR PLayer with it. I use it as a HT system. Only disadvantage is you can utilize the 5.1 sound from the BluRay and not DTS HD ot Dolby HD as the 4750 does not support HDMI audio in

im planning on gettin a BDP3000 from philips bluray player. And yes i checked the spec on their website it does have a digital coaxial out! So im gonna be able to do this!!

One more question please.....the digital coaxial cable is of one type only? I mean if i go to the store and ask them for it,they will know what i mean?

Thanks guys!!!

one more question guys...my HTS4750 now is of no use for playing DVD/CDs since I have changed its lense almost 7 times...and its always getting dead in 1 month. So now I am using this system only for listening songs and watching movies through USB. I can not use Bluray player since my panasonic PV8 plasma doesnt support resolution more than 720p. So is there any possibility to connect a just a new dvd player to this systme through digital in and getting the surround sounds...I meant enjoying 5.1 movies + music? Eagerly waiting for your reply on this pls...

You can connect BDPs to your TV. 720p is not a problem. Just set the resolution in player to 720p or 1080i.

I have HTS4750, such a brilliant system, lasted me close to 6 years, i still have it packed up, will put it to use again soon :D

Hi, and what about the sound, does it give 5.1. sound and what mode should I keep one connected to bluray? Can you give me more details of attaching it..? Normally we press " disc button" on the remote to play dvd...direct mp3 button is for playing mp3 content..which button I need to press on the remote to play bluray content once connected through digital in..?

For 5.1 sound use the optical or coaxial out of BDP since your HTiB has no HDMI input. Playing blu-ray is easy. Just insert the disk and it will start playing.

Ok so I need to connect bluray from coaxial out to my HTIiB digital in, so I will get the DTS sound right?
