Hi friends,
I need your help regarding this matter. i was looking for some used audio cd's and found some persons selling their music collection on olx & quikr. I contacted them & in reply they sent me their collections list along with the quotation. now the problem is they all are from other states, so my question is, how safe it is to buy from olx or quikr. also how can i ensure that the person is selling original audio cd's..??

There is no way on olx. I have no idea about quickr but I guess that it's the same there too. Sometime back I had bought few discs from a lady in another state and luckily they were all very good. I am very scared to buy from these sites.

Some points that I keep in mind, when I do have to buy-
Pictures should show the discs properly.
The advertisement should have proper language and description. Read this carefully as it gives a lot of hints.
I make it a point to first talk to the person and then purchase.
The order should be of an amount which if lost will not cause worries.

( I do hope that some day the sale of authentic audio CDs gets permitted in this forum too )

for original western & indian audio cds contact a lady from Mumbai

I wouldn't trust any outstation seller on these sites. Ask the seller to create a ebay auction. Offer to pick up the ebay fees.

Never buy an item from such sites that you cannot verify physically. I mean no courier. You have to go and check, pay and pickup.

Whenever you buy from classifieds sites do check the seller details and try to look for within your location. I prefer searching on quikr.com in classifieds sites.

This is where we FMs can help each other.

Suppose there is a product that one wants to buy from another state. If that state's FM volunteers to check it out, then it makes the whole matter much easier.

He can buy it on behalf of the non-state FM and then shipping can be handled at leisure.

I have been trying for this for a TV purchase from Mumbai/Chennai but no FM has come forward to help me so far.

I am of course willing provided something comes for sale in my locality and some other FM in our forum is interested.

Interesting, I have two questions for you 1) what if the non-state FM backs out after the volunteer has paid for the purchase?
2) What if the equipment is damaged during transit? Will the volunteer have to pay?

It has to be a clear understanding between the two FMs.

For example, I for would look at it this way:

I am from Kerala and let us say that the product in question is in Mumbai/Chennai/Bangalore. The FM in question who has committed to do the checking for me only picks up the product after checking and confirms with me that the deal has gone thru.

The non-state FM (In this case me) has to fork out the money up front (Which I am willing to do). This amount can also be a token so that someone cannot back off.

Of course, another way is for the volunteer who is checking the product to phone after inspecting the product in question and say that it would cost Rs XXX and the other FM has to agree. Once agreed, the understanding is of course binding on the Non-state FM.

I understand that there are loopholes here and there has to be some degree of trust and understanding between the FMs.

But my point is that when sales between FMs can be done on mutual understanding, why not this?

Of course am quite willing to accept any views to the contrary.

Let us first buy the product, the transit can be arranged on the understanding that the volunteer cannot be held responsible for any damages in transit or better the non-state FM comes himself and picks it up.

I agree with what Vinod says. That's the best way of going around it even if it has flaws. It is definitely more safer than directly calling the seller and hoping he will mail.

Thanks Hildebrand for the vote of confidence.

I am willing to be the first guinea pig. Any volunteers for buying a TV for me?

I will of course send the link of the seller I am interested in. The local FM can have a look and let me know by phone and pick it up.

I would be willing to send money upfront or a token as the volunteer FM decides.

All risks regarding shipping and working of the product after it reaches the volunteer FMs house lies on me.

How does the whole thing sound? Any volunteers?

The only problem is that one must not commit to two people, as both may buy the same product twice for you!

Any other points can be pointed out by other FMs.
