Help regards room dimensions, et all!

Re: Private Theatre At Home

Restarting this thread again :)

Finally started the construction and the basement it is!!! The size of the basement will be 21 x 13 x 9 in feet. Hopefully this is decent?

Infact the basement is now done and we are doing the ground floor. The construction will be basment + GF + FF.

I have a couple of questions for now:
a) I am assuming that wooden flooring is the ideal option for the basement. Please suggest otherwise
b) Also, thinking about what door I should have? The options are a complete wooden door Vs UPVC doors(like Fenesta/Rehau, etc).

Depending on the budget, apart from flooring and doors, I may have to put on hold the setting up of the home theatre room for sometime after the home is done  . Hopefully that wont be the case...

Sreedhar,

In forums there will be lot of us who will inspire confidence to fellow members in making a private theatre at home.

Frankly speaking if we will talk outside the forum of making such a theatre it is likely that people will say we are crazy because they may not know the power of such a marvel.

About trading this is something too a risky, especially the type of trading i do.

As far as investment goes, you will surely benefit a lot in long run if you consider the mutual funds route. You can contact some of the leading financial adviser s at your end and take a full back up from me or others at the forum etc, who know very well of mutual funds.

These many trips to Shimla is work + personal, it is nearly a month that i am now in Shimla, and will be here for a couple of more days. I like this place a lot.

I had to take a lot of hard decisions while making my "Mini Theatre", like sealing a huge window of 6 X 4 feet especially when the view outside was very good and that too from a 10th floor and then partly raising the floor and making foot steps, if all this was not enough then a No Smoking & Fire Exit display, etc.

To sum it up, more the passion, better and unique could be the outcome.

Please do EXTRA care to water proof your basement room.

Not to discourage you, I also wanted to do the basement HT and then decided to go against it as I didn't feel confident about my architects options of waterproofing the basement room. You are going to keep very expensive electronic equipment in that room. And they needs to be protected against water seepage. Please do all the EXTRA steps to make the room water proof. Make sure you have proper insulation against rain water.

On the positive side, a basement room is the BEST place to have a home theater :).

Good luck with your construction.

Thanks,
John.

Thanks John for your feedback. I was in a similar dilemma, but I finally decided to bite the bullet. I have done waterproofing both inside and outside and am leaving the rest to the almighty :)

Hopefully everything will work out fine...
