1.I think that 50 inch will be too large for 8 feet distance for sd content like sony,zee channels.therefore,I am thinking of 42 inch tv.

2.Plasme vs LED ??????????
This is the main confusion in my mind.For my requirements,please refer to:-

As,I do not want to buy another TV for 15 years.
Tell me difference according to quality and not cost factor.

@harty
Your minimum viewing distance,sd connection and tv size?

Update:-I forgot to mention that the minimum viewing distance is at 18-20 degree angle,whereas,16 feet is at 0 degree viewing

Puneet, not to discourage by any means - but days of having a gadget for 15 years are long gone.

The first TV I remember replacing was a set which gave up after more than a decade, the replacement 29 inch one is still running for last 14 years in my native town! I personally got a 21 inch CRT in 2004 which was replaced with a 42 inch plasma roughly 2 years back and I am already itching to switch to something bigger and better.

The same is the case with any electronic gadget or appliance you buy. The pace at which technology is evolving will outdate the product you own in 3-4 years max.

Mark my words. You will regret your decision. In a year's time or two, we will start getting all HD channels. I watch 100"+ image on projector at a distance of 10 ft. If you have not committed, please reconsider. My very honest and humble opinion.

Plasma for movies definitely because of intense black levels in movies and the ability of plasma to be true to blacks (no racist pun intended :lol:).
