Based on the vast knowledge of people here I was able to buy my first proper amp - a Marantz PM5005 without audition and it has been a real success (considering buying without any audition).

Congrats!! (silver or black?) I got the same few weeks ago. I'm also very happy with it, now plan for nice DAC. I ordered Modi multibit, yet to arrive. What speakers your PM5005 catering?

Got the black one. Speakers is a bigger problem. I had a Sony hi if component system (mhc rv222) which has a decent quality but the bass somehow is not nice and the treble irritates after sometime although I can't say what is exactly wrong with the sound signature.
To make things sound smooth & musical I bought the Bose 301 & discarded the Sony speakers. The result was much better music, but the bass was still weird.
Next I bought this Marantz. Connected the Bose 301 and realised how good the performance was. Enjoyed this for a week.

Then decided to hook up the discarded Sony speakers once just to check and was shocked by its resolution and great bass response.

The Bose 301 is quite unable to output the resolution fed to it by the amp. So I am listening with the Sony speakers at the moment and will upgrade the speakers sometimes soon after I decide on a good pair. My source is the Fiio X1 and Flac/iTunes purchased music.

Great!! enjoy your setup. I'm also using apple music on iTunes, paid subscription. I've been a gaana user but found apple music much better and can directly listen from iTunes on my PC. Yes you can upgrade speakers later..there are many choices to choose from. PolkAudio, Wharfedale, Bouston Acoustics bookshelves can come in budget. I'm using PM5005 with PolkAudio RTI A3, sounds very beautiful.

Hi Deb,
Did you purchase it from HifiMart? I am considering the same model.
At the moment this product is on sale.
I heard that Marantz is discontinuing the PM series, but I am not 100% sure on that.
