I am very much afraid of handing them to local carpenters.
It requires 2 to 3 persons to carry. I am also unaware of its exact weight.
Yes, its working. Platter rotates and music can be heard. Problem is the needles. Old needles are rusty and I am not able to get new needles.
Another problem is, I am not having lot of record collection. Most of them are distribute to my relatives.

Goodness... there was a time when, if the family Radiogram had broken down, that I used to listen to music on one of these.
Sadly, long gone, as is the family collection of 78RPM records.
A childhood trick: play a record by holding a pin in your teeth and applying its point to the groove. Probably best, however, not to try this with one's irreplaceable 78s today!

Probably only source near Pune will be Mumbai Chor Bazar. You will get both records and needles. You will need plenty of needles. One needle will be good for only one or two songs.

Yeah, we still hear to this once or twice in a year. But, precondition is my grand mother should allow. No one can touch it without her permission. She has some emotional attachments with it.
Listening to it during summer days when days are long and you can't step out of house, gives pleasure.
You are talking about that era when records/soundbox/needles were available.
In my opinion even if they are recommended to play for 10 to 12 sides better to play max. 2 to 4 sides. Because compared to needles good records are hard to find. Best way if one cares about 78s is to switch to ceramic cartridges/record players.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the way vivekam any classical / Marathi (If you listen to Marathi) classical in your collection ? Just curious.

Even when the rest of the world was buying 33 1/3 "singles", I was still listening to my parents' 78s! They were fragile things, anyway, and you can imagine that a child broke a few, even though my mum and dad might have had them for years. Frankly, at that age, I didn't care --- or more accurately, wasn't really aware. I recall that I actually wore out Island in the Sun!

I have few records from hindi movie 'Teesri Manzil'. Few more hindi movie records are there. Classical records/ Marathi classical are not there.
