I am new to forum and also to home theater so looking for help in selecting right components. I am planning to setup a new home theater for my new apartment and will move my current 2.1 system to guest bedroom. The interior work is going on and I thought this is right time to select the system so that all the wirings can be taken care of. My budget is around 1.5L. Was thinking for marantz 1604 receiver and wharfedale 10.2 speakers. Looking for compact receivers and bookshelf speakers. Thanks in advance.

Good budget for an ht. Do you plan for 7.1 or 5.1? If movie watching is much more than music would suggest you to look at 5.2 or 7.2. Share some more details on the size of room. Movies:Music Ratio and browse some other threads on the home theater section. Good setup is finally what impresses your ears and this decision has to be made by taking audition. To start of you can audition the available home theaters on demo near your location.

room plan attached. It is 10x15 area in 16x15 room. I am thinking 5.1 as the viewing time is limited because of my schedule. Mostly TV- Sports in HD, sometime TV and music on weekends. mostly retro popular, devotional and bit of classical. I am an enthusiast not audiophile so even bose 5.1 HT sounds good to me. In my car I have Bang & Olufsen which sounds excellent to me. Also will have to probably put the speakers on the wall and next to TV unit so pls suggest accordingly.

let me try. meanwhile the number at the bottom is 16'-1 3/4" and side is 11'-3 1/2". TV unit is in front of L shaped sofa.

I visited avxcellence yesterday and looked at AVR and speakers. Liked the danon avrx1100 AVR. Looked at the paradigm speakers.. ok but not great. they are suggesting martin logan but I am not convinced. I am looking at satellites only because of space issues. How is QUAD L-ITE PLUS 5.1 HOME THEATRE SPEAKER SYSTEM feedback?

Piyush, your room arrangement is not ideal for HT. Don't look for any elaborate system. If you want a pucca HT, you have to redo the room completely.

What I would suggest is either an HTiB or a entry level AVR with satellite speakers and a good sub. You have to find innovative ways of hanging the satellite speakers so that the L shaped sofa set becomes the main viewing area. Maybe hang the speakers from the ceiling pointing downwards to the L shaped sofa.

If you want every seat in the room to be included, you will have a lot of noise leakage and inconsistent 5.1

Cheers

Sure. The ideal is to have only the front of the sofa (from TV) as the viewing area. I was thinking to put 3 speakers on the TV panel, subwoofer on the ground and hang 2 speakers behind the sofa on the wall.

Would you have a recommendation on the entry level speakers. For AVR I think I can still go with danon as it has zone 2 and airplay support.
