Somebody bought yamaha 196 for 21K - http://www.hifivision.com/home-theater/28044-purchased-yamaha-yht-196-today-20-999-a.html. If you can increase the budget to 30K, there are many options like Denon 1312XP, Onkyo 3500, Yamaha 296 etc.

Can I use Onkyo without connecting to TV because its just amplifier I guess. I need home theatre for my room I am not connecting it to TV.

The AVR can be used without connecting to TV, but I'm wondering what is the use of the HT if you are not connecting it to TV? What is your preference music or movies?

yes 3400 can be used without a tv no problem...but
whats your preference music/movie/stb and source of material...cds,what?
for music go for int amp and 2 bookshelv way...
3400 is a nono for music

For pure music go for a stereo setup. Invest in a good cdp, DAC, a stereo amp and matching speakers. If hall size is less than 160 sqft, then bookshelf speakers and a system capable of 100W is good enough. For every 10 sqft addition, add 10W of power and top it to 200W max. Amp wattage must be 1.25 times more than the speaker rated capacity.
