i have a sony dvd player.i want to build up a home theatre with it.what components should i look for- i can spend abt Rs 20k- imean from where do i get speakers, amp and a remote control for such a homethaetre.please guide me as i have no ideas abt the recent audio brands in the market

For 20K, I guess you can only get Yamaha 196 and if you can increase your budget by 5-7K, then you can go for Onkyo 3500 which I think is a decent entry level HTiB within your budget.

Hi RMC can my dvd sony player be plugged in to the yamaha 196 -it does have a hdmi connectivity.also from where can i buy the yamaha 196-online or some dealer- i am based at pithoragarh, uttarkhand.also its brochure syays it can play blu ray-will this affect playing dvds.in the brochure pictures i see only a amp and speakers-does the amp feature a cseeste deck also.

Just to give you an idea, HTiBs like Yamaha 196 have a central box called AVR which can take multiple audio and video inputs, decode digital audio like DTS an Dolby Digital, amplify these decoded signals to be played back through the speakers. In your case you will connect the hdmi out of your dvd player to one of the hdmi input of the avr and hdmi out of avr is connected to TV.

There is no cassette deck or dvd drive or blu-ray drive.

You can buy it from ebay.in, the price is though slightly higher. Yamaha YHT-196 Home Theater 5.1 Speaker Theatre System | eBay

The prices have increased because of falling Rupee. Check reliance digital in your town. They generally keep Yamaha YHT-196 . Try to burgain for 21.5 or 22k.

Hi Anirudh panwar

There is no issue with the Yamaha 196....as mentioned by others it is indeed an entry level Home Theatre system....it is definitely better than going for the compact Sony or Panasonic or LG or Samsung models available within 20k....

I have used Yamaha in the past and found no issues. You may want to upgrade to a Blu Ray player later...would recommend you go in for Pioneer BDP 150 as it is a 3D Blu ray player which plays all formats through discs and even pendrives / external hard disks...

I currently use a NR 1402 + Boston Acoustics Soundware XS 5.1 (this is available on Hifi Mart as NR 1504 + Bostons and cost almost 51k odd) with a Pioneer Blu Ray player. The experience is awesome and good value for money. Ofcourse I did a lot of research over the internet in terms of reviews and videos to make sure that I am headed to the right direction. I have used different systems for the past 11 years (Yamaha / Pioneer / Harmon Kardon / Denon / Bose) and not found anything sounding so great and awesome than the Marantz ... I will upgrade soon to B&W speakers (CM series or 600 series).

The speaker wires, HDMI cables, subwoofer cables ofcourse need to be purchased separately. would recommend monster or in India MX cables are just fine...It could be possible Reliance / Vijay Sales / Croma etc would be selling other Home Theatre packages of Yamaha...you need to see what appeals to you and your budget.

Hope this helps.

when u buy the yamaha 196 what else do u require- a hdmi cable and something else also and if SO where do i buy all this from
