Hello guys,

I'm looking to set up a home theater in my 18x12 dedicated room. Please help me suggest a setup within a 15L budget. Also, please suggest places in Hyderabad to demo speakers. Most of the places I've visited primarily demo Klipsch in poorly calibrated rooms, making it difficult to assess their true sound quality.
Here's what I'm currently considering:
AVR:
* Anthem MRX 740 with a power amp or an MRX 1140 for a 7.1.2 setup, known for its exceptional sound quality and advanced room correction (ARC) profiles.
* Marantz Cinema 50, a simpler option without Dirac Live and profiles.
Speakers:
I'm considering Martin Logan or Bowers & Wilkins 6 Series in-walls, but I'm also curious if tower speakers might offer a superior soundstage.
Projector:
I'm leaning towards a Sony or JVC laser projector.

Please share your thoughts and recommendations.

Regards,
Abhinav

Hi,

You do have ample budget to get a good system. Honestly speaking it is better to audition before buying where possible. What may sound pleasant to me may sound bad to you. Everyone has their own tastes / preferences.

If there are less dealers / stores in your location I suggest to travel to the closest place (Bengaluru / Chennai) where there are several dealers who have different brands available for audition. Make sure you audition with the same music and movie clips to draw an reference and to make a decision from the shortlisting of brands / models you will do.

Don't rush. If you are unsure of what to buy as everything sounds great and you just need something to get the ball rolling, suggest you get a pre owned system which will easily come within 20% - 25% of the budget you stated. Use the same for a while and then upgrade accordingly. You can find many over Facebook Market Place, OLX, Classifieds on this forum etc. Check the current prices and negotiate as much as possible based on the condition.

Most have gone through the pre owned route as it offers experience of brands / models (I am one of them).

ALWAYS audition in person and please do not reveal your actual budget to any dealer as they tend then to push products which are too expensive / which is lying in stock to customers which is not value for money! Don't commit immediately to any dealer, take the prices and do your own Home Work on the suggested models / brands being offered. Evaluate Pros Cons and OfCourse the price!

You can also browse through the many forums we have (Home Theatre / What should I buy etc.) for experiences shared by various Forum Members. Youtube videos have end user experiences you can look at which can help deciding / creating a list.

All the best! Others with experience will suggest / chime in some ideas / pointers, end of the day the decision is entirely yours!

DIRAC has come - King of Calibration.
Denon or marantz with multi subwoofer options reign supreme for that budget.

Projector - Sony 5000es projector is unbeatable under 150" screen size in a dedicated space.

Screen - avoid elite screens
Consider clearview or lumina ( lumina drawback is lack of black backing ) .

Speakers - fyne audio in walls or else celto acoustique.

You can go with fyne if you are going to sit closer to the screen. ( Under 13 feet )
If you wish to sit far from screen then consider celto acoustique ifix 10. ( It's a pro audio brand - don't go by it's looks - its sound is top class for the price ) - note - ifix 6 and ifix 10 are very good. Avoid ifix 7.

Subwoofer
Option 1 -2 to 3 x fyne audio 10 or 12" subs depending on budget and room simulation requirements ( can be done in REW software)

Option 2 - celto ifix 17s x 2-3.

Choose subwoofer consider how dynamic it is and not how low it hits. ( Having experience of listening to more than 50 subwoofers )
Only dynamic subwoofers can give that chest kick.

Acoustics - have less than 30% absorption - carpet surface area counts in this.
30% diffusion - there are low budget options for diffusion.
Remaining - reflection.

Avoid big parallel reflection zones to avoid flutter echo.

All this when executed right will give you a stellar performance which would be hard to beat .

All this best :)

Thanks for the detailed response @prateekatasniya . Any where in Hyd to demo fyne or celto speakers?

I'll strongly suggest to have 4 Atmos channels. 2 adds effects, but the real effects come with front and rear heights, rather than top front and top rear.
