My bro has finished his new house and can spare much for extra renovation and furnishing.
This is for his "room" which is his work room+entertainment room, not the "living room".
Here is what he already has
1) Sony 55" TV KDL 900A with 4 hdmi ports
2) PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii All consoles have 1 HDMI port
3) PC with 2xGTX 780ti GPU SLI (no monitor as TV is to be his monitor) Both the GPU has a HDMI port
What he needs to buy
1)A home theatre box thing that will run simultaneously with tv,pc and consoles
2) Speakers to be set up around the room
Before he pays another huge sum for setting up his home theater/gaming/productivity room, he asked for my advice, but i am pretty clueless about home theatre
The query--
1) Can the TV, PS3,XBOX360 and Tata Sky HD Set top Box's Sound system all be integrated into one?
For eg. He is working on his spreadsheet listening to mp3s from his PC, then he wants to check the TV news channels, and then play games on PS3. He wants his "yet to be purchased" speakers to be able to give 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound from his PC,PS3 and while watching vh1 music channels through tata sky settop box.
a) Does he have to change wires for each different component?
b) Will the surround sound effect come from his PC motherboard's integrated sound card or his Home Theater Box ? Which is better for sound output, PC's dedicated sound card or Home Theater Box or sound system's sound card (some speakers have sound cards inside them i heard)
c) Is it worth it to get a new dedicated PCi-e sound card? What about external sound cards? Will the PC sound card affect his PS3 gaming and vh1 tv channels
d) Will there be a need for extra wires like analog /digital blah blah wires, i have no idea about them...
In short what will be the ideal Home theater speaker system which can allow good surround sound output when playing on PS3, PC games, Watching TV from tata Sky and watching Blue Ray movies from Home Theater box(which i assume has a BD player)
