Home Theatre - What & Where?

Hello Friends

I got some cash from an unexpected source. ( yeah yeah, got an award at work :clapping: ). So thinking of wisely spending it instead of spending it on Wine and Food.

So, i have decided to go for a Home Theatre system and thats how i ended in here.

Budget

INR 30k. Stretchable to +5k

Main Usage

1. 80% Watching Movies - 1080p, 720p, 480p
2. 10% Tata Sky HD TV Entertainment/Music
3. 10% Tata Sky HD Sports (with Soccer WC coming, its gonna increase)

I have a a Sony 40 inch LED TV at home with enough HDMI ports.

I am planning to do all the research here, finalize and got Reliance Digital or Chroma or Modern World in Bangalore. If there are nicer places, please suggest.

What do you guys suggest for my requirements?

I know it all depends on my hearing experience but i dont have enough time to go about taking demo's of many systems and combinations.

As per many links over here, seems Yamaha 299 is a sensible choice in that price range. Even I am planning for the same in near future.

+1 for the Yamaha 299. I have it and loving it. It is a perfect system for your budget (35-37K). I didn't get any offer at Reliance so bought it from Vijay Sales. You might want to check out some online deals.

I didn't audition any other systems, but based on my experience so far here are some good points about 299,
1. Supports DD HD, DTS HD, 4K
2. Powered sub - produces rich dense bass
3. Very clear sound, can produce tiny notes
4. Good inbuilt effects, especially 5.1 mode which converts any 2 channel source to 5.1, it enhances the speech clarity

I mostly use it for TV, movies and games, haven't tried much music on it

Surprising that there was no offer from Reliance. How much were they quoting?

Regarding the installation - was it a DIY? or Yamaha personnel came and did it for you? Did they charge you anything?

Nope, I just auditioned for Yamaha 196 and 299, so dont know how Onkyo Denon sounds.
I got mine for 35K at Vijay Sales. Reliance was not giving me any offer. The price is 37K without any discount.
For installation, YAMAHA technician comes for installation. They wont charge you for normal installation but if you want wall mounting brackets or auto stick wires its extra. Brackets are 450/- each. These are swivel brackets so you can adjust speaker angles.
I have heard that Reliance sends their own guys for installation, and they are not really trained to do it. So make sure you ask them to send Yamaha technician, in case they don't send Yamaha guy, call Yamaha service center urself and get an appointment.
