Hi,

Would like to know in detail how the overhang gauge supplied with Technics TTs function and helps in aligning the cartridge.

When I am pushing the cartridge to the gauge its not going through in full because of a elevation at the top of the cartridge.Do I need to push the cartridge full inside the gauge and then do the alignment?

That 52mm distance recommended - is it after the cartridge goes in fully?

Please help.

N.B : Attached please find picture of the gauge.

Hi,

Please find the link

Thanks.
The pic here and in the Technics manual shows the cartridge going in fully and touching the base of the gauge. But in reality am not able to do that as because of the small pin like point on top of the headshell part which fits in with the tonearm,I am not able to push it through.

So how does it work?Should I push it through?

There is a slit in the alignment gauge and the pin should go into the slit. The cartridge should be pushed in fully.

Need to do it with a cool mind and examine the mechanics of what you are doing. You must actually read the articles to understand every nuance of turntable set up.

Thank you so much.Thats exactly what I was looking for that whether I should push it through the slit or not!

Hi,

If you try to align your cartridge with the help of Technics overhang gauge you may not like the results.Try using Stevenson method which will give you better results than original technics gauge.Try it to believe it.

Sachin

Hi Sachin,

Thanks for your email and details about stevenson method.
I was trying to align the cartridge 1st with the help of the gauge and then apply the Stevenson's method.Won't it work that way?

No,

both work differently.Technics gauge will give u different overhang than Stevenson.Technics overhang gauge is meant for DJ's/people who needs fast swapping of cartridge.

Sachin

Hi Manua,

After alignment your cartridge should look similar to this at both the alignment grids.

And this is how it looks like when aligned in the 2nd grid without making any twists or changes in the cartridge position.
