Folks,
I intend to buy a 32 incher LCD for my bedroom.
The content would be SD/HD channels via DTH and 720p movies.
From all the reading I have done so far, on paper it seems that with a maximum viewing distance of 7', it makes more sense to go for a 720p TV.
I plan to take content with me to the showrooms and try it on various LCD TVs.
Since, this in my first dive into the HD world, I want to know what should I be looking for. I may have limited time in front of the TV sets.
I was wondering if we can have a collection of sample clips/some bullet points so that making the right choice becomes easier. Plus, it can help other folks who need to make the right informed choice.
For instance, would it make sense to...
... carry clip of Dark Knight to check out the shadow details
... carry clip of a 24p panning scene
... carry clip of an action scene for ghosting
etc
Do I make sense? :)

Go to SONY center/ Croma/ Vijay Sales and buy SONY TV as per your budget. For HD, fit Tata Sky +HD
So simple. ;)

I have done this after long extensive research.

Good Luck

now that you have decied for a 32incher..

lets get to the second important thing..

budget..

also carry a 720p video file to check the smoothness.. small clips with say beautiful colours in some video to check the colour reproduction,
action clip for tru motion truth.

compare for the tv's which is able to reproduce striking colours..

also carry sd content.. both dvd and dvd rips (700 mb) so you can check the upscaling
and the usability in normal SD channels..

in the end.. buy what your heart says.. you have to live with it. .and the best way is to live with it happily...

whatever looks like an eye-candy to you.. make it yours.. and you are all good...

technology evolves so fast that for which you are spending so much time researching tv's ,ight just not be there next month.

so review.. research and isolate few models and then pick what you like..

Thanks guys, tomorrow I shall go to the showrooms armed with a selection of clips I have been collecting since a few days.
Across 4/5 C/D series, are the processors, software the same. I am thinking they wouldn't be. So, is there a way to know which model is favored (eg 580 vs 550?). I wouldn't mind AllShare (even though I am aware of the limited codec support), so I am looking within 45x/55x/58x/59x series (Is there a real spec sheet. The one at Samsung just doesn't tell the difference between a 580 and a 590). I have scoured the forum but have just gotten increasingly confused. To make things more confusing, Samsung has launched the D series... argh.. :)
and of course, there is the panel lottery... Is there a processor lottery also...
Is tomorrow a lucky day for me ;)

BTW I am only looking into Samsung. It is going to be a bedroom TV and multi format over USB is a very high priority.

5 series C or D should work out for you.
Infact, get the 4 series and save the extra money. You will not be able to distinguish between the two from >6 feet. FHD is only

The C480/580 series look like ugly duckling! But apparently the sound is better then 450/550. It is going to be compromise between look and sound if you select one of these.

The D481/581 looks good with good sound though and the difference in pricing with 'C' series is negligible. Personally I dont understand why you would select 'C' when 'D' is available. I leave it to you though.

LA32D481 is the one I would personally pick. If you want boasting rights of 1080p, get the D581. You wont see a difference.

When I purchased,I did some Homework.I DL online manuals to find exact features(response time, panal type, contrast ratio...)
I read some online reviews(including HFV advice),selected 3 models.I cut some clips from different possible formats(Divx,Xvid,vob,dat,RMV,MP3)& carried on same pendrive. That time mkv was not common via USB.
Clips were from dark scenes to some animations.
This helped me to decide.

Mr dear friend,
please check the new D series from samsung.Model is LA32D481G4.
This is brand new Tv and having the woofer 40W RMS. sounds tempting :yahoo:
You may also consider the bravia 32B320 around same specs but with less in audio department.
Plz post the results !!!
We both are in the same ship.

So I did go to the Rel Digis, Chromas, Ezones, Girias, Viveks and the first impression was that the C-Series is almost out. Most are not yet displaying D series coz they want to take the C out. And right now, it is phase in-between.
None of the shops I went to had D481 and there was only ONE shop I know which had a D580 (Reliance Dig Cunningham Road). Chroma didnt even have a C530 except a showroom piece.
Worse, they are not willing to stock till maybe a week because they want all Cs to run out.
Anyways I found one shop which had a C530,550,D580 (Rel Dig Cunningham Rd).
I tested the D580 and it looked nice to me. A few mkvs had issues but mostly ran. And ran well. The audio was not bad. Seemed like a nice package overall. SD looked similar to C530 and was reasonably fine. The C530 looked like it had better blacks but it could be the calibration or a better panel. Anyways, with the panel lottery I dont think I can hardly call it an edge.
Interestingly, some of my clips did not play on a 530 (it played on the 580). Maybe the 530 needed a firmware update.

Overall, I did not find any reason why I should not go for a D580 over the C series. But with running all over the city in the beginning of the day, I got less time for a peaceful evaluation.

The processor was an MStar though. I found very few Tridents. Mostly on 550 models. Don't know how much it would matter thought. And then of course there is also a processor lottery. Gosh, can it get more confusing....?

BTW is D580 anywhere related to C580? I believe a 580 has a Val processor and is better. But then whats a C590? I thought it might have a Val too but i checked out a 590 and it had a MStar.

Anyone else with a D580 comparison.

about 481, could not get hold of a demo piece...

ok so I got a 32D580 :yahoo:
Haven't connected it to a set top box yet. Have a HDD connected and have watched a couple of movies.
Set looks good and sounds decent for a bedroom. Haven't explored all options yet but will do that when TS HD+ arrives.

@shashaxe: Many Congratulations to you. BTW, How much were the damages? Did you get any freebies along with the TV? Does this model also come in 40' or 46' sizes? Sorry for the interrogation:lol:. Now, some pics and a review is due on your side. Enjoy it to the fullest.
