HTiB for playing movies in laptop

Hi to all,
i am new to this forum and i love the suggestion by other members.

I want to buy HTiB. My budget is around 20~25k.
I shortlisted onkyo 3400/yamaha 196.
Onkyo 3400 is around 28k and yht-196 is around 21k.

And will these receiver upscale stereo input to 5.1 format.

I am inclined towards yht-196 because it will save me some bucks.
I am not going for sony/philips because they dont have HDMI input.

Go for Onkyo 3500 or 3400. All these htibs will convert 2 channel audio to virtual 5.1. Also look at this latest Yamaha model - http://www.ebay.in/itm/180995295551?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3863wt_1336

Onkyo is better. Lots more HDMI inputs. Also, YHT-196 does not do HD audio so you will need to upgrade tomorrow if you start collecting Blu-rays.

Look around you should get the Onkyo for around 25K.

You all are suggesting onkyo over yamaha.
Is there any specific reason not to chose yamaha.
Onkyo 3400 looks better than yht-196 but what about yht - 296 v/s onkyo 3400

I am inclined to yamaha because i got yamaha dealer in my city.

Which city are you from? Onlyo 3400 price you quoted is very high. You can get 3500 in that price range. 3400 should not be more than 25k. 3400 is better than 196 in terms of features.

Presently i reside in delhi but i will use product in dehradun.
