HTIB or not?

Hi All,

I was on the lookout for a VFM HTIB and had decided on Onkyo 3300 which with diwali offers comes to approx 24K in Bangalore.

Coincidentally an acquaintance of a good friend is relocating out of Bangalore and is doing a distress sale of Yamaha 665 receiver and Yamaha NS-SP1800BL speaker set for approx 22K.

My usage is primary for movies(80%) and occasionally for music(20%) and my room size is 10x10.

I know the Yamaha receiver is a good one and is better than the one in the Onkyo 3300 bundle. But not so sure about the speakers from Yamaha. Should I stick to Onkyo HTIB or go for the Yamaha deal?

The 665 is not so good a receiver. If it had been 663, I would said buy it blindly.

Can I go only for the yamaha speakers? Are they decent enough compared to ones with the onkyo 3300? I guess I can get the speaker alone for 4-5K.

If you can get the speakers for just 4-5k, then I would blindly say that the Onkyo's should be better.

It is difficult for two equally popular companies two sell similar quality products with such price difference.

However, you can even consider Harman AVR 133 + JBL SCS 140 for 25k

This is a distress sale and he wants to sell them before he relocates. I dont know the original price of these speakers.

Ajayk,

Simple fact is carry your music to your friends place and listen to it for few hours ... If you like the sound and options bargain a bit and go for it.......

Not like you are buying this on a blind recomendation right you have great oppertunity to audition number of times with your choice of music and movies/games.... so try it out.
