for a audio pc, basically any damn cabinet will do, unless looks are important.:lol:

underclock the cpu, see if you can get away with passive cpu cooling like a heat sink.
use 5400 rpm drives. dont go for 7200rpm as these sound like a freakin machine gun. 5400 is nearly silent.
replace the fans with low db fans.

And you are all set...

check if you can send 24bit 192khz over usb. i remember reading otherwise somewhere.

That zotac is a very good option if you are planning to use USB. It has everything one needs for a USB output music PC.

However in my case, I've gotten more mileage from my PCI EMU 1212M than anything else as an spdif source. That rules it out completely .

Thanks guys for all the information. Couple of more questions.

1.Do you get small touch Lcd monitors (6 to 9 inches-widescreen) in India ? How much do they cost ?

2.Are there any HTPC cases (horizontal type) available which comes with a Touch LCD monitor build into the front panel ? One option is to use a computer remote control. I am trying to avoid adding another Gizmo.

Even I am in the process of deciding on the specs for a music PC. From the little research I've done, cabinets with remote control panels are above the 10K mark. I myself am considering between the Silverstone LC19B R0022 & the ML02. Any idea what is the minimum required clearence from the cabinet top to the surface above, if placed on an AV rack, to leave cooling space?
Could you post the specs that you have decided on?
