Hi All,

I am looking forward to buy a new TV shortly and hence need suggestions for the same....
Some points to be consider
1) Viewing Distance - 8feet
2) Source will be Tatasky HD (need to buy), DVD player, Media Player
3) Will be used mostly for watching TV Programmes and Movies sometimes thro DVD Player/Media Player
4) Infront of the TV there is a sliding door of Balcony which is transparent and light comes directly on the TV ...even use of curtains doesnt blocks the daylight completely
5) Will be wallmounting the set, mainly coz of my kid who is around one & half years old...

Main dilemma is between below 2 things
1) Plasma or LCD/LED
2) 32" or 40"/42"

My Budget - 40K
Please give your suggestions for the same....also would appreciate if you can provide me with the options available with price.....

Thanks in advance....

Regards
Amit

Only 32" LEDs are available under 40k and the prices have only just dipped into that range. I would give you some practical suggestions to get most out of your budget. If you care about the picture quality, good Plasmas are the best deal. There was a Panasonic HD Ready 42" plasma (TX-P42U20?) available for under 40 k which has recently gone off the shelves in some of the stores. This is a pretty good TV and don't worry about HD-ready vs Full HD. This TV does just fine for most purposes you mentioned. Try to look for this model quick, and coax the dealers to get one out of their warehouses for you.

Also take a look at some 37" LCD models that were available from Samsung. Generally speaking, like larger RAM is the best upgrade for a PC, larger screen is the best feature upgrade for a TV. So even though 8' is not a long viewing distance, having something bigger than 32" would help.

Bright room performance is one factor to consider - if you watch more TV programming. Choose plasma carefully for this application.

I know what you mean by light hitting from behind.

Trust me get a lcd with a matte screen. Also lcd/led-lcd have the huge brightness potential to defeat glare.

For that viewing distance a 40" lcd will be great. But with a budget of 40k you can't get a decent tv of that size from showroom.
You can however get the Sony CX520 for around 44k or less in grey market. It has a matte screen.

Thanks to all of you...

@adder - Sony CX520 for around 44k !!!!.....i have seen the sony site and as per it this model have only 46" sets.....is this really available for 44K in grey market .....

Sony india is yet to launch the 40" version.
