Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum as well as to the world of home theatres.

To upgrade from my soundbar, I auditioned KEF, TAGA, JBL and finally settled for the Monitor Audio Bronze BX5 5.1 package with a Denon X2200 receiver, which I purchased here in Dubai.

Since I had already exceeded my budget and the installation charges were quite high, I have opted to install it myself.

Now, the delivery is due in a couple of days and I have no idea how to go about the installation.

It would be great if you guys could help me out with the following:

1) Ideal type of wires for the speaker setup (gauge, brands, etc.)
2) Best place where I could buy them (for people staying here in Dubai)
3) Do I need to buy separate stands for the speakers?
4) Any and all tips n' tricks, do's and don'ts, etc. for the installation (speaker positioning, hiding the wires, etc.).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Will keep you posted about the results.

Regards,
Amit

Hi

For speaker placement, refer to the operating manual or google searches or youtube videos....

For speaker wires....go for 16 or 14 AWG Oxygen Free Cable (OFC).....

Subwoofer would require a shielded cable....

If you have enough space, you can place the speaker on table mount type stands....or wall mount if possible....all depends on your personal choices...

Once speakers are connected through wires to the AVR, run the auto setup...audyssey...it will calibrate everything....room has to be silent enough.....

Once this is complete, you are good to enjoy the performance...

Thanks for your help efernand1... :-)

Just to clarify, the lower the gauge of the wire, the better it is, correct?

Also, could you suggest some brands please?

I don't want to be confused or misled by the seller.

Thanks again!

Hi

Lower the gauge ..thicker the wire.....thicker is to be used if the distance from speaker to avr /amp is more.....

Could you let me know which brands (and lengths) are available within your budget. Can guide further then

Hey efernand1,

Since I am setting up a home theatre for the first time, I am not aware of the brands and their prices.

I've just booked a couple of days back and I haven't even calculated the length of wire I would need.

But definitely I wouldn't mind spending more on the wires to get the best sound quality.

I checked a couple of shops and they didn't have them. Guess I'll have to dig a bit deeper.

Will let you know as soon as I have the list of brands and their prices.

Thanks.

Amit, head to the nearest sharaf dg and enquire about speaker wire. Also check with the same retailer from whom you picked the AVR

4sqmm electrical wires could be one of the best speaker cables around. Don't have to spend a fortune over cables IMHO.

Sent from a handheld device. Some typos might creep in.

Hi Amit,

Check out www.desertcart.ae and put in speaker wire in search...

You will find spindles of 75ft or 100ft of Mediabridge or Audiodynamics costing between 255-350 dhs.

decide the placement of speakers, measure and accordingly buy the spindle.

Sewell ready made ones with banana plugs as connectors is also available.

I found Mediabridge to be cost effective.....50ft for DHS 83 14 awg.

Subwoofer cable is for DHS 51....8 foot.

To get an idea of what cables are and their cost, take a look at the link below. I would not go overboard on cables though.

Hey efernand1,

The sales guy at Jumbo suggested me to visit DG PLUS - the AV specialists at Times Square Centre.

He said it's a good source for finding different brands, types, etc.

I will also check out desertcart.ae

I'll measure the actual length needed and let you know.

Thanks a lot!

Welcome.

Keep us posted.

You could visit Thomsun electronics...they also deal with a variety of cables and wires.

Hi everyone,

So, I finally purchased a 30-meter spool of 16 AWG speaker wire (Real Cable) from DG Plus - a famous AV equipment shop in Dubai.

I also bought a HDMI cable of the same company as well as a SW cable of QED.

Since I am coming to India, I have lots of other stuff to attend to, and I guess it'll be a while before I finish the installation.

Will let you guys know after I am done with everything.

Thanks again.
