Thought I'd get expert opinions on this. From what I understand, IR is a line-of-sight technology that requires that there be no obstacle between the receiver and the headphone. Also IR has limited range (but it's for watching TV anyway). But I also heard that IR gives better stereo sound and is less prone to interference. And most importantly, IR affords privacy, in that you don't have to worry about your neighbours being tuned into the same band on their wireless headsets, especially if you are watching something naughty;).
On that note, has anyone had experience with Philips Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones - SHC2000? How do they compare to Sennheiser RS110 (RF technology)?? The Sennheisers are approximately twice the cost of the Philips.

I have considered going the bluetooth route but rejected it because of the comfort factor (or lack thereof). I have a pair of Motorola behind the neck type bluetooth headphones, which have surprisingly good and deep sound. But comfort is one area in which they fail. Using these headphones for more than 30 minutes and it feels like my ears are going to break off from the rest of my head, not to mention that they make you look like a medieval princess in distress. So comfort is a big factor.

So experts... any gyaan?

I am using SHC1300 since last 6 months and they are pretty good and comfortable. It has 4 IR nodes to catch the maximum coverage. I could not compare with any other as I grab them very cheap at ezone clearance sale.

I would say the IR coverage is about 160 degrees and had no loss for 30 feet in the angle range.

i had not so pleasant expereince with IR 5 yrs back. Have RF now ,which I feel is better but not using much

That is not an issue with headphones that use digital transmission. Audio is encrypted and one can not listen to it by tuning on to the frequency.

i have got RF ones cheap make.. does a decent job either to watch tv or i can take output through the logitech z-5500 control pod.. but very rare use..

but does work fine.. and audio is definitely encrypted. unless your neightbour is using some spy gadgets.. and if you watch somethin *** NAUGHTY*** let him also enjoy..by the end of the day he is also human.. heheheheh :)

that thing is good but similar issue with these devices is the sound output is very low.. i had similar one with jabra and i had to dump it.. similar stuff you can get for frontech as well for lot less price and it will have a same transmitter which can be used with any standard 3.5 mm rca device (cellphone, tv blah blah) it can be used with an adapter or two aaa size battery and also 2 aaa siza battery in headphone.. and the sound is decent...

Thanks TIR. However I bought an identical pair some 2 years back. Still have them but stopped using them. The transmitter stopped working properly. As it is, it was giving quite a bit of interference. And the headphone unit.... another story entirely. The earpieces are rather uncomfortable. The padding is about as soft as professional boxing gloves, and if you happen to be wearing glasses, then you will know how it feels like to be boxed in the ear. Good headphones are supposed to fit on the ear snugly. These will clamp themselves down on your ears and, frankly, after a few minutes I start feeling disoriented and sweaty. Maybe your experience differs. But compared to these my iBall Rocky headphones are very good.
So I think maybe I might ditch the wireless idea (after all!!) and go in for a decent pair of Sennheiser HD202. By all accounts it appears to be the best VFM, and is probably better than higher priced models from other brands. Anyone have any experience to share regarding Sennheiser HD202???
