Today i saw one "Aamr Prem" LP in my friend's LP collection. It looks Duplicate pressing. I never heard about duplicate pressings. Originally this record released "The Gramophone Company India Ltd". With "Odeon" label. May be HMV released with another labels like "Angel" HMV or EMI, But this record does not have any more information about manufacturer and marketing details. Only i found the "WORLD RECORDS" label on the record and record sleeve. I have the original LP with same title. I am posting the both the photos.
Thanks
Raaghu

Back in the day, a lot of pirated record labels used to exist, especially in the Malaysian and Hong Kong market. I have some of these old LP pirate records, shall dig them out and post some pics. I must also have some malaysian pirated EPs of movies like Waqt, Kanyadaan, etc lying somewhere. Let me dig them out and will post some pictures.

I remember bootleg vinyl records business mentioned in "Godfather" ( mario Puzo) , Novel. Any reader remember that??

+1 Reuben. There were lots of countries(i.e. Malaysia, Taiwan, Russia, East European countries ) who used to press these bootleg/pirated records. Because of their copyright policy this was never a problem in those countries. Till 2009 there was no copyright restriction in Russia and one could get very good quality 'branded' pirated cd's/dvd's for 50cents to 1usd.

Regarding Indian vinyl records, Malaysia was notorious for producing them. Their biggest market used to be our neighboring country. In Taiwan, Thailand and Hongkong one could easily buy western titles' pirated vinyl copies. But unlike pirated cd/dvd, for these pirated records quality used to big issue. Most of them were bad to very bad SQ wise and quality of vinyl wise. They used to come in paper thin covers and used to warp easily.

@Raghu, how is the Sound quality of this 'world record' Amar Prem compared to the Odeon pressing?

Bhaskar

woah! to vinyl was not the golden era for original music after all!!!

Let me check my collection of Hindi OST...will post if I see something 'suspecious'...

There used to be a Holland Print (with a deer sign) for these hindi soundtracks wherein the sound quality was pretty decent. Other than that all other prints were crap regarding the quality. Malayasian print came with Deepa Audio sign. I will post some pics.

I did not know this! Where are these vinyl pressing plants right now?:D BTW, I have a 'Kanyadaan' LP which is pressed in Pakistan. I am forgetting the label name right now but probably its on Odeon, with a label in blue color, unlike our usual black.

Bhaskar,

That fake record condition not much good compare with my odeon, that pressing quality also not good compare with my original Odeon record.

Thanks,
Raghu

This album of Alabama's " The closer you get..." is a duplicate from Hong Kong that I got during the 80s! I gave away most of the duplicates that I had (usually from Hong Kong). This is the last one in my collection! The music reproduction is pretty good too!

Hi Saket

I do not think there was an Indian lp of Kanyadaan. The Pakistani blue label odeon is the only option. Sound is decent.

Thanks for the info Prem, but what could have been the reason? Kanyadaan is an Indian movie.

Hi Saket,
As someone who lived & worked in Pakistan (as a journalist), I have seen several LPs of Indian film music/Indian singers dating back to 1960s that were pressed in Pakistan. All that I saw were made by legit companies (not bootlegs).
I'm guessing that Odeon, as an EMI subsidiary, had access to rights for the country and pressed these LPs legally.
This page has several Odeon Pakistan LPs featuring Indian singers. 45cat - Latest Records: Pakistan - Page 1

That is very interesting! Is it so that some Indian albums were pressed only in Pakistan & not in India?

Quite possible. I saw some compilation LPs (greatest hits/best of sort of stuff) that seemed to be only for the Pakistani market. Again these were pressings from 1960s. After the 1965 war, Indian films were banned till about 2006. (Though the Pakistanis never stopped watching them! I'm guessing they didn't stop listening to the music either.)

Kanyadaan also release in Indian Print from EMI ( No. HFLP3537 ) ( If its Music directed by SJ that we are discussing )

Yes, the director duo were Shankar & Jaikishen. Thanks for the information.

Hi Saket

A few titles like Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi was released by Odeon Pakistan in the 60s . They were released on HFLP series in the 80s by EMI INdia. I thought Kanyaddan was only an Odeon Pakistan release. Did not know it was released on the HFLP label. Also a few combos were released only by EMI Pakistan
