Hi Everyone

I bought a JVC QL 7 table second hand about 6-7 months ago. Been working perfectly and really love the table. However, of late it would give speed issues where it wouldn't lock on and the speed would go completely out of control. I would turn it off, and turn it on a few hours later and it would be fine. I was told by a fellow forum member that it could be a problem of electrical fluctuation in my home power supply. Hopefully that's the case.

However today again i faced the issue and now it's not geting back to the set speed. I was reading on other forums about the same issue, and some people replaced their "caps" and tinkered around to fix the issues.

I am a complete moron when it comes to anything electronics related, and I was wondering if anyone here knew someone in Mumbai who can help me to fix this problem? A good electronics engineer or someone who can help me sort this out. I really love this table and am devastated that it's not working.. took a while before finally settling on this table, so don't want to junk it!

Any advice would be grateful!

Thanks
Tek

Ok I just tried my turntable that I have in my living room (a Cosmic Cogram) and that is also not playing at the correct speed! That's so strange!! So it must be some power problem at home? But everything else is working fine.. TV, Fans, Lights, etc.

Do I need to get some sort of power stabalizer?

Hi Tek,
I think you have to replace all Electrolyte caps as they are old and their rating changes over time. Its not a very big task for a skilled mechanic.Your TT should be fine after recapping.
PS: Please don't use any local cap

Sachin

Thanks Sachu. If you, or anyone else, can recommend someone in Mumbai who can do this job for me I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Sachu what do you think about the fact that even the TT in my living room (the Cosmic) is not playing at proper speed. In fact the platter is moving so slowly at 33 setting that it is barely moving! Could it be that both TTs are having problems, or something to do with power supply?
I will follow up again maybe in a day or two to let you know if the issue still persists, but it looks like I won't be listening to any records tonight :(

Hi
You may have to replace all Electrolyte caps of both TTs,cleaning pots/trimmers may also help.It could be a problem with power supply, but I am not sure.

Sachin

I have a Cosmic Cogram 4000 Mark 2 and an SP 313 F DD player with speed variation. I may need to change the caps and pots to get the speed corrected. If I succeed, I will share it with you.

To rule out power problem, take it to someone else' house (preferably not in your neighbourhood! as your neighbours would be receiving power from same feeder) and see if it still plays funny. If it plays right, then you have a power problem. If it doesn't play right even in another location, then the tables have prob.

Hi
I too have a JVC Turntable since 1980, it has a qartz control/manual speed control, now that's its old the qartz contol sometimes goes out of control so have to control the speed manually, then runs ok,
You can contact 'Janta Radio' near Matoshree Dadar (W) Tel:24465646.
I have seen some tuntables kept for repairs, try calling

The best option would be reputed repairman.
My guess is problem could be Caps, Speed Regulating IC, Speed Setting Presets, Touch buttons if any, Voltage etc. You can check for voltage fluctuation by multimeter. Also would suggest avoid prolonged use of TT with speed variation.
Regards.

Thanks for the all the advice guys, really appreciate it. I think I'll take the JVC over to a friends place and try it there. If it's still giving issues, I'll contact either of the ppl provided in this thread. Thanks for that again.

What boggles my mind is that BOTH TT's are having speed issues at the same time, and both were working perfectly fine until a few days back. In fact, the Cosmic has never had any speed issues and now the platter is barely moving at 33 1/3 setting.

Ok.. this is so weird.. I just turned on the JVC again to test it out, and it's working! It's locking onto the speed and playing fine :D
I think I will take it in for a recap anyways just to be on the safe side, but will ask around until I find the right person for the job.

Cheers!

I had sent it for repairs a few days back to Panduram in Mumbai on a tip from J but i am yet to get it back. He called me today and told me he has fixed it, so will go tomorrow to check it out. *fingers crossed*

Been having bad vinyl withdrawal :(

I got my TT back from Pandurang today. He told me he fixed it so I went over to check it out, and the quartz lock was still drifting slightly, but staying more or less on correct speed. He said the circuit board had been leaked and he changed a lot of parts. He mentioned one part he needed to make the speed lock on properly, but it was not available. Anyways, I brought it home and plugged it in and it's still completely out of speed :( It's spinning so fast.. probably even faster than 78rpm. I told him i'll bring it back tomorrow. I really hope i can get this table fixed.

Hope it gets fixed tek. I can empathize with your vinyl withdrawal, passing through this phase myself...

What makes it worse is that I just won a bunch of amazing records on eBay and now I will have nothing to play them on!! Aaargh!!
