I was using my Wharfedale 10.1 from last 2 years and was happy with those.
Now i wanted to go for 5.1 setup with the decent budget but as less as possible.
After a little research on olx i got a deal, used KEF HTS 2001 satellite speakers (set of 5 without sub woofer) for 5k with good quality 4m wires with each.
My old Denon 1602 amp generates 70 watt/channel. I thought these will be a good match (or if it doesn't, i can sell these again on olx for 5k without loss
).
I bought these and connected these with my amp without any sub woofer. My source was Airtel set top box. I watched Transformers: Dark of the moon in HD and as per the specification mentioned it was Dolby Digital Plus.
One word for these satellites.. awesome. Perfect for my old amplifier. The highs being produced by these were very clear, crisp and smooth but not harsh at all, for their size and for satellites these were reproducing decent lows as well, however you must need a sub woofer.
Superb vocal clarity even in the busiest scene of the movie even in low volume.
While buying these i was a little scared and of course who likes to regret. And now i am really satisfied with my decision. It doesn't mean that Wharfedale was not good, it just means for a stereo those were superb and so are these KEF for a 5.1.
Pros:
1) Crisp Highs, decent low and moreover superb vocals.
2) Huge sound for a satellite. Loud enough even for medium to big size room
3) Comes with very flexible wall mount.
Cons:
1) Bass becomes a bit boxy if stretched too much and of course these are not meant for bass bump for that I'll need a sub woofer.
I could not find any more cons for a speaker system for 5k.
I will buy an used JBL sub woofer for lows (getting a JBL ES150P for 5k from olx itself).
