I need suggestions on which would be better for my setup, the KEF Q100 OR Q300 bookshelves for my setup.

RECEIVER: YAMAHA A1040
CENTER: KEF Q600c
SUB : SVS PB1000
SURROUNDS: MISSON DI-Pole ( don't remember the model)

Room :18x19 feet, with no audio treatment.

USAGE : 70% movies, 30% Music.
COST : Q100 @$300 , Q300 @$550( getting them from USA)

I have already bought the q600 center speaker since I got it for a real steal. I don't want towers and so I need to shortlist between the q100 and q300, but could not find info to help me decide.

My pick would be the Q300s based on what I've read about pairing it with Q600 center. I've read nothing but good about the Q300s, so give it a shot.

Between the two, another reason I would consider the Q300's is you have a particularly large room/space.

BTW saw the same post in avsforum also... all the best, have fun;)

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I have posted on the other site too.
What I wanted to know is how is the q300 different from the q100 other than the driver size? And how will the changes help me.

Deeper and more defined bass is the primary difference, better soundstage, music has more 'body' with the Q300. If you have the budget which it seems you do then most certainly go for Q300.

Any reason to get them from US?

I'm travelling to the U.S. And it's cheaper there. So it's better right?

Does not seem to be that cheap at the moment given the price you mentioned.
Plus they are quite big, you will need to pack them carefully, if you end up paying duties for them then it will definitely not be cheaper.

You can get one here for about 35K, so that probably is the best way.

Ok. I can get them for $400. I don't see a customs problem as I'm well within the 50k limit. The packing will be the original one. So it should be pretty secure right?

It seems so. I brought my MA BX2s in original packaging putting it in a large trolley bag. I padded them with my cloths. It landed unharmed. :)

I would suggest KEF Q100 over Q300 as you have a 70% movie pattern..... KEF Q100 can still do good in a stereo..

Any particular reason q100 is better for movies.

Nope.. When you use it movies, you might probably set the front crossover to 60 Hz, it really doesn't matter if it is Q100 (or) Q300 as the AVR would send anything lower than this to SUB.. So it completely defeats the purpose of larger bookshelf speaker (or) floor stander... Hence the suggestion for Q100..

Where it would really matter is in stereo listening, may be very marginally...

I have the q600 centres and they are HUUGE (one of the biggest centres I have seen at this range). Having a q100 with that - would it be underpowered ?

Since your fronts are from same brand and same family (Q Series), they would be perfectly fine as far as timbre matching is concerned...

I think you are going by the size of the speaker and referring Q100 as "underpowered".. Nope...

If you are getting a really good deal on Q300, pick it up as it has the same driver on Q600.. If not Q100 is fine...

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
