Laptop as HTPC ?

Question :

IF I connect my Laptop to my AVR via HDMI
What signal am I sending to my AVR - Analogue or Digital..

-------------------------------------

Basically assume I play some FLAC files on my laptop and it is connected to my AVR via HDMI, Is the Laptop sending digital signal or analogue to my AVR?

has to be digital...why don't you keep a dac in between to improve the sound quality?

This is purely for casual listening. :)

I have a Netgear Push2TV. So was contemplating playing music off my Laptop to push2TV which connects to my AVR when i surfing.

So if it is digital. My Denon 4311ci has a brilliant inbuilt DAC. so might as well use it at some point in time for stereo

I have used my relatives Laptop & yes it can bitstream HD audio when connected to 667.
There are laptop graphic cards which can bitstream perfectly.
You need Freeware like MPC-HC, XMBC which does the job well.Pot player is not helping me to get HD-audio out.
Other players like PowerDVD,ARC total media are dedicated SW,but paid one.
