Hi People..
One of my friend is coming from UK via dubai.
We heard that the prices of LCD/LED are cheaper compared here...

Just need to get some idea, How much would be for a 40inches LCD/LED.
Places/Brands recommended to buy.
buying procedure (do they accept UK Pounds? etc)
Transport procedure, How to bring to india? any charges levied here? etc...

Kindly help us guys...

List price is just one factor. Yes, the set may be cheaper in Dubai. Some of the things you must consider besides price:
  • Shipping cost: Such a large item cannot go as your baggage (it is 40" and the laden box weight would be close to 35 kg). The excess baggage cost of $25 per kilo will be horrendous. It must be sent as unaccompanied baggage or cargo. Still it will be quite a bit.
  • Customs duty: The customs people will have their own value of the item. They will check your valuation with their own and consider the higher value. Then they will verify the shipping cost with your challan and add that to the price. They will also add 1% as local handling charges. This will form the base value (A) of the product. Remember that if you have sent the item as cargo, you will not get the Rs. 25,000 benefit. That exemption is for accompanied baggage only. So on the base value they will charge 30% as customs duty (B) on (A). If you bring the goods via MH state (read Mumbai airport), a further 4% octroi will be charged on (A+B) - call this (C). So your total cost is A+B+C.
  • Warranty: International warranty does not work - believe me. So you will have no warranty.
  • Finally, you will have to engage some local transport to bring it home.
  • If you wish for any wall mounting, you will have to pay for that too.
The whole affair is not worth. Even if you save, it may not be much and the hassles are too many.

If goods are brought in under the "transfer of residence" scheme then duty structure is completely different. But that does not appear to be your case.

Whatever I mentioned above is the official route. You know what the other route(s) mean.

You can easily get 40" LCD/LED TV from there. One of my friend got Sony Bx400 LCD (which is older and still going for 50K in India) cost him 28K and 3K for customs (other route!!!)
It's standard in Hyderabad airport that LCD 3K, LED 5K till 40", afterwards it is 10K and depends person to person.
Hope it helps.

Hi
Last month bought Samsung 40" LCD LA40C530F series for Rs.28000/- plus Rs.1300/- customs duty at Mumbai same available for Rs.51000/-. However no duty on 32" TV's

i got a sony 40ex720 the customs was 8k in chennai.. still cheaper than the 80k price tag for the tv. dubai is the place to buy tvs.

46" will be very big to carry as accompanied baggage by air. Also the risk of screen breakage is too high. Better to buy in india for warranty issues also. The dealer will safely deliver the tv to your place with demo.

Hi.........LCD / LED from Dubai are cheap at the time of Dubai Fest.......I also got Sony LCD 32EX500 for 32k (+ free 250 gb external HDD)........when it was costing around 44k in India...... the best place to get dem is Bangkok as no one can beat dere pricing.........or grey mkt is best as u can see the piece ur self and risk of damage is 0 as it wud be local delivery or u can bring by ur car too.

Hello,

In my experience, the most economical places to buy TVs in Dubai are Lulu and Carrefour. Sharaf DG/Plug-ins do carry a wider range, but are slightly more expensive. The advantage with Lulu or Carrefour is that they often have special offers wherein they give a AED 200-250 voucher which you can use to purchase any of the goods available at their outlet.

The gross weight of a 32 TV is 13-16 kgs whereas that of a 42 incher is 18-22 kg, depending of course, on the brand and model. Mumbai Customs do not generally hassle you for a 32 TV as it easily falls within your baggage allowance of INR 25K, unless you are carrying a lot of other items as well which make it obvious that you are exceeding your allowance. In such cases the men in white do hold you up for a while, but that is to guide you to take the ubiquitous other route.

Trust this helps.

Sorry to Come back to a old thread..

I think he has to come via the transit of 3-4hrs and may not be allowed to come out of the airport...

CAn any Tv be bought in the Duty free shop..?
What are the Prices of those there..?
Importantly, How can that be added to the existing checkin baggage?

I will be going to Dubai, most probably by July end. Might even be there at the start of Ramzaan (1st August this year). I want to buy 1x32" and 1x40" (or 42") TV.

Is that time a better time to get good deals on LCD/LED TVs from there?

Where in Dubai can I buy these at the best rates? How much difference can I expect from the Indian prices (which are with warranty etc.).

I will also be going to Bangkok, between August-Oct.

Will it be better to buy from Bangkok compared to Dubai? How much is the difference that I can expect from Indian prices

In Bangkok, which are the best places for LCD/LED TVs?

Please help

Thanks

Hi
Just got back from Dubai last week, TV's are cheap compared to Singapore or Bangkok,
Try Pluginns, Carrefour, Jumbo Electronics or Sharaf.
32" TV no custom's duty if you have nothing else, otherwise duty is applicable,
Check if warranty is valid in India
A 40" TV and above is quite troublesome and should be plastic wrapped (available at the airport for AED.15) as it has to be put in the aircraft hold

My uncle just came back from UAE n bought a 46inch samsung d6000SR for 69000 rs (international warranty) n paid 7k customs :ohyeah:
