LCD/LED from Dubai...

Dear All,

Emirates is allowing 55" LED as check-in not plasma since weight is more and also the packing is bigger..... I reconfirmed while coming back in the Check-in counter.. But please note that no other check-in bag is allowed except the TV. So your belongings and dresses shall be well below 7 to 10kgs and can hand carry.

I will be going to Dubai, most probably by July end. Might even be there at the start of Ramzaan (1st August this year). I want to buy 1x32" and 1x40" (or 42") TV.

Is that time a better time to get good deals on LCD/LED TVs from there?

Where in Dubai can I buy these at the best rates? How much difference can I expect from the Indian prices (which are with warranty etc.).

I will also be going to Bangkok, between August-Oct.

Will it be better to buy from Bangkok compared to Dubai? How much is the difference that I can expect from Indian prices

In Bangkok, which are the best places for LCD/LED TVs?

Please help

Thanks

For bangkok please read the posting by our member "Ravin"..http://www.hifivision.com/what-should-i-buy/18464-can-someone-help-bangkok.html

..For Dubai you can found in this thread and search the forum.. Plenty is available.

LED TVs are cheaper in Singapore than in Dubai(plus the 7%GST refund in Singapore)
33% is the tax levied at customs for any goods costing more than 25k(in Indian prices)
There are lots of Malls in Dubai, like Carrefour,Emirates mall,Dubai mall, but surprisingly the price is exaclty the same in all the shops.
Tvs under 32 inches would not have much tax at the customs.
Believe it or not,a few products like mobile phones are more expensive in Dubai than even in India.

Just returned from Dubai.
Was on a look out for 40/42 incher. Found prices very attractive.
Being a seaman I get 40Kg baggage allowance hence even weight wasn't an issue.
But with torrential rains pouring back home, I was skeptical about the piece reaching home safe. Hence opted not to buy this time.

However I found below prices at City Centre Mall which hosts all major retailors.

Jumbo was having 40KDLEX720@ 50K, KLV40CX520@34k and KLV40BX420@30K
Panasonic Plasma X30 was mere 28K and 42U30 was @33.7K with BlueRay player free.

I found the shops flooded with 3D tvs and finding pure LED (non 3D) next to impossible.
42" LG LK series was for 32K.(don't remember the model)
So price wise it is very very cheap. Panasonic offers 1 yr international warranty.
LG and Samsung warranties too are valid in India. Not so for Sony.

I checked at Emirates check-in. He mentioned that they happily accept 42 incher. The check-in agent can authorise upto 3Kg excess baggage free of charge. SO bringing LCD won't be difficult either.

I was expecting loads of TVs in Mumbai rolling out from the flight.
But found only 2 TVs on the belt. I was one of the last guys to receive lugggage and was pretty observant. That left me wondering if people don't find any charm in buying from abroad anymore.

Hope my post helps you in someways.

ebay India Deals of the week offers is quoting Rs.46,000/- for a Samsung LED 40D5000 (the 2011 model). This is with dealer warranty (means it is grey market). Delivered to my home in Ajmer.

Should I go in for it? Or get similar from Bangkok/Dubai? (pricing/model applicable at that time) There is no emergency I can wait.

Also I already have a 3-D 46HX800 of Sony, so a 3-D bluray player etc. are already with me.

Already you have 46Hxxxxx, why cant you jump in for 50" and above, it is like degrading from LKG to Pre-KG..:p

Sindabad sailor, people were'nt buying LED TVs from Dubai and there were not many on the belt because they already have one or two at home!.Recently when I returned from Singapore, there was not a single person in the group who bought a TV or anyother electronic goods.Every one simply is into happy sight seeing and back home I beleive!

Well!! The 46" is in my father's room. My room can not accept anything larger than a 37' (maybe a 40" with some adjustment).

Do tell me Samsung/LG/Sony prices in Dubai and Bangkok.

The duty free allowance of Rs. 25,000 per passenger applies to Indian citizens only. As far as I know, it does not apply to PIOs, Indian-born foreign citizens holding dual citizenship, etc. But I could be wrong.

Further more the 25K allowance applies to check-in baggage on a passenger flight and it includes all items imported to India. I have seen custom officers tormeting passengers on this by asking them to open the bags, removing all dutiable items aside and adding their value. This they do only when someone tries to act too smart.

It is best to refer the official websites for correct information. But I think that your sister will not face much issue. I have seen people bring in much larger TVs without paying any duty.
