LCD TV for Computers

After reading the above discussed, I understand that a monitor is always the best option when it comes to computers.

Thats the reason why I was looking out for a tv that can gimme the clarity of a monitor and so I can also watch normal cable tv.

I dont wanna buy a TV and a monitor seperately thats the reason why I am trying to seek you guys help and advice where I can get a good 24-26 inch TV/monitor combo. For i know someone out there has already done what i am planning to do. but i guess none of the tv's can give us the clarity of a monitor.

Get a monitor ,its better as a display for computers. As suggested dell U2410 is your best bet.

At close distances a large size display will cause eye strain.

The 24" or 26" lcd tvs come with lower resolution and may come with crappy panels.

Before buying a 24" LCD (16:9 ratio) please remember that the viewing area will be almost the same as of a 21" CRT TV with 4:3 aspect ratio. SO unless you have a space or budget constraints go for a larger TV

You have answered my question CANDUU. One more question.

This LED TV Philips LED TV 5000 series LED TV 24" Full HD 1080p 24PFL5555/V is it a good TV, costs around 25k is it worth the price?

Viewing area may be almost similar, but if he is going to watch widescreen content like movies then I assure You that the viewable area will be much more than the viewable area on a 4:3 21" CRT.

Sorry to disagree but you CAN scale down the resolution on a TV. Am saying this with full confidence because I just finished a long session of Crysis on a Full HD TV. Just like a monitor, the TV can also accept multiple resolutions, not just its native resolution. I played Crysis at a resolution of 1280x720 resolution and it looks damn good, not least because the TV does some native upscaling and eliminated jaggies that would otherwise be present on a monitor which is not displaying its native resolution.
Not just with Crysis. With any game. FIFA, NBA2K series, etc, etc.

On a side note, the monitor you recommend LG 237WA is very good for gaming. I used to own one, but the black levels are very weak.

You hooked up your PC or Console? 1280x720 is essentially 720p , but what about non-standard resolutions like 1776 x 1000 (16:9), which a console would not output, but a PC can, provided the DDC info from the monitor states that the device can support the resolution. If the device does not natively support the resolution, text can appear badly jagged, and banding issues can happen, or simply the TV will say "not supported". I have a 50" Full HD plasma TV and a gaming PC, I know of these issues from 1st hand experience.

I hooked up a PC. Even non-standard resolutions like 1440x900 (16:10) are supported though the image would look a bit stretched. Incidentally, I got this 1776x1000 resolution while playing GTA IV (The Lost and The Damned) and there was no problem. But even in the case of monitors, if one plays at a non-native resolution then there is bound to be stretching or squishing.

Not always true. LCD monitors will lack in contrast ratio where your LCD TV will have more contrast ratio ..so the movie/game will look bright and clean.

Even though picture will be more sharper in LCD monitor than LCD TV, it will be compromised with better contrast in LCD TV.

I dont wanna buy a TV and a monitor seperately....
Drawback of using the LCD TV as monitor is your eyes will suffer if watching for long time and not recommended. And the text will not be as clear as in LCD monitor. You can notice fonts are little bit blurred in LCD TV. This is becasue LCD monitors are designed with more pixel ratio to handle fonts smoothly.
Its better you have to buy LCD TV for watching movies/playing games and LCD monitor for working with computers. You have to go by design ..
