Hi,

I am planning to buy a 40" LED /Plasma TV. My requirements are:

1. Good PQ and decent sound
2. No3D and Internet connectivity(may be)
3. Mostly watching DTH ( SD 50 / HD 50) and DVDs.
4. No gaming.
4. Budget upto 50K.

My living room is brightly lit ( french windows opposite to the TV) and will be watching from a distance of 8 to 10 feet.

Is 40" ok for a viewing distance of 8 feet ?
Is Plasma a option for the well lit room ?

This is my first buy and would really appreciate your suggestions.

Samsung 40F5100. I was quoted best of 52,000.

For well lit room stay away from plasma at entry level. Even with LCD you'll have to draw some curtains.

Size depends on your budget as well. 40" for 8 ft is good but you could go higher both in size and price.

Plasma is not the best option for a well-lit room. If ambient light can be controlled/reduced (by curtains/dim lights, etc.), there is nothing to beat a plasma.

For 50K, 40" LED will be a difficult find. You may get LCD at that price point. But as shaiju said, even low end LCD will require room brightness control.

If plasma is an open option, you can get the Samsung PS43F4900ARLXL (which is listed 45K MRP) for 40-42K.

hi look for philips 42pfl6357 led tv available in your price range.Demo it and if you bargain you can get it in below 50k.Has good PQ both in HD and SD or else look for 42inch 6577 philips led tv DDB .

Would like to point out although the Samsung F4900 is a great TV for the price, it is not FULL HD resolution. Please bear that i mind, if resolution matters to you. I think it matters on a 43 inch TV.

Correct. Even the 720p plasma produces very good pictures. Full HD does not matter unless one is watching true 1080p stuff. For anything upto to 1080i (HD Cable/DTH), a 720p TV can do very well. Only time one will realize 720p is when titles/text are displayed. This is especially true at viewing distances of 8 feet or more (the most common viewing distance).

With a 40", if you have more than 10feet viewing distance - I dont think you will really appreciate/notice the extra details that a full HD can produce compared to a good comparable 720p tv. People often talk about minimum viewing distance, but I think max viewing distance is important too ;)

Hi,

I am also facing the same scenario :)
you can check lg42LN5400 its back lit LED and in pune its available in 50K.
however I saw reflections in my current CRT due to opposite window in day time, so I guess Plasma is NO-NO for me.

you can also check sony EX650 with 56K. or suggest some Sammy tv which can be at par lg42LN5400 or sony EX650.
but meanwhile you can check both the TV I mentioned above.

experts can you please advice us on these model or any new model

Actually reflections is equally a disturbing issue in leds. Best example is hx850. The moment a dark scene comes one can see one's family portrait on the tv.

Any TV that has a glass front will suffer from reflections, especially when displaying scenes of low light, dark backgrounds, etc. HX850 has a gorilla glass top.
